Charles Samuel Trump IV (born October 3,1960) is an American lawyer and Republican member of the West Virginia Senate. He represents the 15th district,which covers parts of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. He is a justice-elect of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia,having been elected for a 12 year term beginning on January 1,2025 in the May 2024 non-partisan election.
Trump graduated with an A.B. in politics from Princeton University in 1982 after completing a 118-page long senior thesis titled "Realignment and Dealignment:Two Eras of Political Upheaval in West Virginia." [1] He then received a J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law. [2] Trump was elected recorder of Berkeley Springs,West Virginia in 1987. He served in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1992 until 2006,serving as minority whip from 1994 until 1998 and minority leader from 1998 until 2006. Trump was a member of the Electoral College in 2000 for George W. Bush. He successfully ran for the Senate in 2014. [3]

William Ramsey Laird IV is an American politician and a former Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate representing District 10 from 2013 until 2017. Laird served consecutively from January 2009 until January 2013 in the District 11 seat,and served non-consecutively in the West Virginia Legislature from January 1997 until January 2001 in the West Virginia House of Delegates in a District 29 seat. Laird is the son of former United States Senator William Laird III.

In 2000,he won the Republican nomination,but failed in his bid to unseat Rep. Ted Strickland,taking only 40% of the vote.
West Virginia's 15th Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republicans Craig Blair and Charles S. Trump. All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms.
The 2016 West Virginia Senate elections were held on November 8,2016,as part of the biennial United States elections. Seventeen of West Virginia's 34 state senators were up for regular selection,along with an unexpired term for another seat. West Virginia Senate districts each have two elected representatives. State senators serve staggered four-year terms in West Virginia,with one senator from each district up in even-numbered years corresponding to presidential election years,and the other up in even-numbered years corresponding to presidential midterm years.
