The Mexican Consortium of Universities (Spanish: Consorcio de Universidades Mexicanas, CUMEX) is a selective group of Mexican public higher education institutions, recognized by their higher quality standards.[ citation needed ]

Founded in May 2005, CUMEX has established a rigorous selection system. Members must be affiliated with the "umbrella" national association of universities (ANUIES by its acronym in Spanish). However, not all ANUIES members are able to comply with the eligibility criteria established at CUMEX.

Membership at CUMEX constitutes a reference about Mexican higher education institutions holding higher quality standards than their peers.

The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, commonly abbreviated to UAG or Autónoma, is a coeducational, independent, private university based in the Mexican city of Guadalajara. Established in 1935, it was the first private university and medical school in Mexico. The creation of the university was a conservative response to a more-left wing direction being taken in Mexico in public higher education at the time. It was first conceived with the name Universidad del Occidente, but would later be styled to Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG).

Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco is a public institution of higher learning located in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico. The mission of the university is "to prepare professionals with broad and deep expertise in their area of study to fill the needs of Tabasco and the country at large." UJAT is the largest and most prominent university in the state of Tabasco. During the 2007-2008 academic year the university enrolled 35,271 students and had a teaching staff of over 2,000. For the same school year the university offered bachelor's degrees in 36 disciplines, master's degrees in 26 areas, three doctoral degrees, and post-graduate Certificates (Especialidades) in 17 graduate areas of specialization. The university grants law, education, management, engineering, medicine, architecture, nursing, and dentistry degrees, plus some 30 additional degrees in other fields of study.

The Autonomous University of Chihuahua is a Mexican public university based in the city of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, but with several campuses across the state. In December 8, 1954, the State Legislature, with Governor Oscar Soto Maynez, issued the decree 171, which founded the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (UACh). UACh was granted its autonomy in 1968, with the freedom to define its own curriculum and manage its own budget without interference from the government.

Mario Garcia-Valdez is the Director of the National College of Technical Education (CONALEP) in the State of San Luis Potosi. During 2012-15, he served as Mayor of the City of San Luis Potosí San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Previously, he served as President of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP) from 2004 to 2012. A lawyer, Mr. García has been a faculty member of UASLP since 1987. At UASLP he has served in various positions including Admissions Director, Vice President for Student Services, Legal Advisor to the Rector, and Secretary General of the University.

The Mexican Association for International Education (AMPEI) Spanish: Asociación Mexicana para la Educación Internacional [AMPEI], is a non-profit membership organization which brings together international educators from Mexican higher education institutions.

International rankings have impacted higher education policy as well as colleges and universities all over the world. In most cases these rankings or hierarchical classifications of higher education institutions are not very sensitive to different historical developments and university traditions; distinct roles played by colleges and universities in different countries; or particular economic, cultural, social and political conditions, at the local, national or regional levels, that shape higher education institutions and systems in alternative ways.

The Autonomous University of Baja California is a public institution of higher education in Baja California. Established in 1957, UABC has its headquarters located in the city of Mexicali.

The Autonomous University of Guerrero is a public and autonomous institution of secondary education and higher education in the Mexican state of Guerrero. Its main campus is in Chilpancingo, with facilities in Acapulco, Taxco, Iguala, Tixtla, Ometepec, Tecpan de Galeana, Altamirano and other cities in the state.

Public higher education in Mexico is the one that is taught after high school or equivalent. It is carried out through higher education institutions (IES) of the public sector. The main degree taken by the majority of students is licenciatura, which is usually accredited between 4 and 5 years in minimum time for those who finish their studies. The degrees offered are técnico superior universitario, licenciatura, specialization, master's degree and doctorate. In addition, diploma courses and continuing education courses are offered.
