Cadmus (Brachycaulus) colossus, or Cadmus colossus, is a species of beetle in the subfamily, Cryptocephalinae, or case-bearing leaf beetles, and the subgenus, Brachycaulus. [1] It was first described by Félicien Chapuis in 1875, [1] [2] from a male specimen collected at Port Denison. [2] It is native to Australia, [3] being found in New South Wales and Queensland. [1]
The taxonomic reasoning for the subgeneric arrangement (accepted by the Australian Faunal Directory) [4] is given in Mathews and Reid (2002). [5]
The family Archeocrypticidae is a small group of beetles with no vernacular common name, though recent authors have coined the name cryptic fungus beetles. Adults and larvae seems to be saprophagous and are often found in plant litter. Worldwide, about 10 genera and 50 species are found, most species are pantropical. Enneboeus caseyi has been recorded from the American South, Central America, and Mexico. About 20 species are found in Australia, in the genera Enneboeus,Australenneboeus and Gondwanenneboeus,Archeocrypticus,Falsoplatydema, Nothenneboeus, Sivacrypticus and Wattianus. They are largely absent from the Palearctic and Nearctic regions.
Setomedea is a genus of small air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Charopidae.
Aaaaba is a genus of beetles from the Buprestidae family. It inhabits locations along the east coast of Australia. It was described in 1864 by Achille Deyrolle as "Alcinous", a junior homonym of a genus of pycnogonids. In 2002, Charles Bellamy gave it the replacement name "Aaaba", but this proved to be another junior homonym, of a genus of sponges. In 2013, it was given a further replacement name, becoming Aaaaba.
Pelargoderus rubropunctatus is a species of beetle belonging to Lamiini tribe of the longhorn beetle family, Cerambycidae, first described in 1831 by Félix Édouard Guérin-Méneville as Lamia rubropunctatus.
Copelatus divisus is a species of diving beetle. It is part of the genus Copelatus in the subfamily Copelatinae of the family Dytiscidae. It was described by Chris Watts in 1978.
Eupoecila intricata, is a rare species of the Australian-endemic scarab beetle genus Eupoecila. E.intricata was described by Lea (1914) as a subspecies of E. australasiae and is still often confused with the species. It was raised to species status by Allard (1995).
Rhytiphora is a genus of flat-faced longhorn beetles in the Pteropliini tribe of the subfamily Lamiinae. The genus was first described in 1835 by Jean Guillaume Audinet-Serville.
Paropsisterna is a genus of leaf beetles indigenous to Papua New Guinea and Australia. There are over 120 species, many with bright aposematic colours, and many feeding on Eucalyptus leaves.
Trachymela is a genus of beetles, commonly called leaf beetles and in the subfamily Chrysomelinae. These beetles are usually brown or black and have elytra with verrucae (bumps) and lacking striae. Trachymela can be found in all states of Australia There are over 120 species.
Cadmus is a genus of leaf beetles which are commonly called case bearing leaf beetles in the subfamily Chrysomelinae. They are widespread throughout Australia and include 5 subgenera and 68 species.
The Spilopyrinae are a small subfamily of the leaf beetles, or Chrysomelidae. They occur in Australia, New Guinea, New Caledonia and Chile. They were formerly considered a tribe of the subfamily Eumolpinae. The group was elevated to subfamily rank by C. A. M. Reid in 2000. However, some authors have criticised this placement, preferring to retain them within the Eumolpinae.
Rhytiphora bankii is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae. It was first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1775, under the genus Lamia. It is known from Australia, the Philippines, Borneo, Java, Micronesia, New Guinea, Hawaii, Moluccas, Sumatra, Vietnam, and has been introduced into Japan. The Australian species of Prosoplus were synonymised with Rhytiphora in 2013.
Eboo is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. It is endemic to Australia, and contains approximately 50 species. Many of these species show strong sexual dimorphism, and they feed primarily on Eucalyptus plants.
Mallada is a genus of lacewings belonging to the family Chrysopidae. The species of this genus are found in Africa, Southeastern Asia and Australia. The genus was first described by Longinos Navas in 1925, and by monotypy the type species is Mallada stigmatus.
Dicranolaius bellulus is a species of soft-winged flower beetle in the family Melyridae, found in Australia, in all mainland states and territories. It was first (partially) described in 1830 by Félix Édouard Guérin-Méneville as Malachius bellulus with the publication ot illustrations. However, Guérin-Méneville completed the description with the publication of a text in 1838. Consequently, the Australian Faunal Directory considers the first valid publication to be that of Jean Baptiste Boisduval in 1835. Taxonomic reasons for the various synonyms are given in a 2017 paper by Liu, Slipinski and Pang.
