Caelostomus punctifrons is a species of ground beetle. It was described by Maximilien Chaudoir in 1850. [1] [2] It occurs in Sub-Saharan Africa [2] and in the Caribbean. [1]
Tiger beetles are a large group of beetles, from the Cicindelinae subfamily, known for their aggressive predatory habits and running speed. The fastest known species of tiger beetle, Rivacindela hudsoni, can run at a speed of 9 km/h, or about 125 body lengths per second. As of 2005, about 2,600 species and subspecies were known, with the richest diversity in the Oriental (Indo-Malayan) region, followed by the Neotropics.
Harpalinae is a huge subfamily of ground beetles that contains 20,000 species or ~6,400 spp. in 24 tribes worldwide, according to others. A rarely used common name for the subfamily is the harp beetles. The Harpalinae contain the most apomorphic ground beetles, displaying a wide range of forms and behaviors. Some are, rare among ground beetles, omnivores or even herbivores.
Omophron is a genus of ground beetle (Carabidae), the only extant genus in the subfamily Omophroninae. It is mostly distributed in the Northern Hemisphere with the southern border running through Guatemala and Hispaniola in Americas, South Africa and Madagascar in Africa, Malaysia and Philippines in Asia.
Poecilus is a genus of ground beetle native to the Afro-tropical region, the Palearctic, the Near East, and North Africa.
Anthiinae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following genera: Others consider it a tribe (Anthiini) of Harpalinae.
Lebiinae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Carabidae.
Licininae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following genera:
Orthogonius is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Tetracha is a genus of metallic tiger beetles in the family Carabidae, formerly treated as a subgenus within the genus Megacephala. Tetracha species are exclusively New World in distribution, while Megacephala are exclusively Old World in distribution. There are ~100 described species in Tetracha.
Pterostichinae is a subfamily of ground beetles. It belongs to the advanced harpaline assemblage, and if these are circumscribed sensu lato as a single subfamily, Pterostichinae are downranked to a tribe Pterostichini. However, as the former Pterostichitae supertribe of the Harpalinae as loosely circumscribed does seem to constitute a lineage rather distinct from Harpalus, its core group is here considered to be the present subfamily and the Harpalinae are defined more narrowly.
Caelostomus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae. It contains the following species:
Pogonus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Caelostomus cribrifrons is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Pterostichinae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1872.
Caelostomus rectangulus is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Pterostichinae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1872.
Caelostomus intermedius is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Pterostichinae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1878.
Caelostomus zanzibaricus is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Pterostichinae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1878.
Caelostomus quadricollis is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Pterostichinae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1878.
Caelostomus subsinuatus is a species of ground beetle in the subfamily Pterostichinae. It was described by Chaudoir in 1883.
Harpalini is a tribe of a diverse group of ground beetles belonging to the subfamily Harpalinae within the broader family Carabidae. The tribe contains more than 2500 species.
Lebiini is a tribe of ground beetles in the family Carabidae. There are more than 250 genera and 4,800 described species in Lebiini.
