Young was born in Asheville, North Carolina. [1] [3] From an early age he was interested in music and at the age of three, he was introduced to piano by his parents. [1] [4] During his time at high school, he played wind instruments. [1] He studied euphonium at the University of Alabama and then later attended and graduated from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with a master's degree in orchestral conducting in 2013. [1] [4] During his time at Indiana, he studied with conducting pedagogues, David Effron and Arthur Fagen. [1]
His career started in 2013 in Bloomington, when he created an orchestra named KammerMahler. [1] [5] The orchestra specializes in performing symphonic works in a chamber orchestra setting. [1]
After graduating from Indiana University, Young served as assistant conductor with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic beginning in 2016. [1] [3] [6]
In September 2018, he became the associate conductor at the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. [1] [7] As an associate conductor, he has conducted more than two hundred performances. [8] His other notable works at Philharmonic include, starting Music+Mixology series and Musically Speaking pre-concert talks. [9] In the same year, he was selected as "The Great Eight of 2018" for his contributions to Fort Wayne's arts community. [10] Later, he received an Emerging Artist Award, awarded by Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne. [11] [12]
In 2021, Young was invited by Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste to join the inaugural roster of Lead! Artists. [13] [14] He had his debut in Finland with the Finnish Chamber Orchestra in 2021 sharing a concert with Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Esa-Pekka Salonen. He has also worked with John Williams at the Berlin Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. [13] [15]
As of 2021, Young currently serves the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as the Guest Conductor for Engagement, while living in Europe. [16] [8]
During his career, he has participated as a conductor at the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Oregon Symphony, Russian National Orchestra, Salzburg Festival, and Toledo Symphony Orchestra. [15] [4] [17]
Esa-Pekka Salonen is a Finnish conductor and composer. He is the music director of the San Francisco Symphony and conductor laureate of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Osmo Antero Vänskä is a Finnish conductor, clarinetist, and composer.
The Sibelius Academy is part of the University of the Arts Helsinki and a university-level music school which operates in Helsinki and Kuopio, Finland. It also has an adult education centre in Järvenpää and a training centre in Seinäjoki. The Academy is the only music university in Finland. It is among the biggest European music universities with roughly 1,400 enrolled students.
The Oslo Philharmonic (Oslo-Filharmonien) is a Norwegian symphony orchestra based in Oslo, Norway. The orchestra traces its roots to the Philharmonic Society founded in 1847 and the Christiania Musical Association co-founded by Edvard Grieg in 1871, and was established in its current form in 1919. Since 1977, it has had its home in the Oslo Concert Hall. The orchestra gives an average of sixty to seventy symphonic concerts annually, the majority of which are broadcast nationally on the radio. The Oslo Philharmonic entered into a close collaboration with the newly established national broadcasting company, the NRK, in 1934. Its current chief conductor is Klaus Mäkelä.

Charles Ansbacher was an American conductor. After undergraduate and graduate work at Brown University ('65) and the University of Cincinnati, he studied conducting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Ansbacher was the conductor and musical director of the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra from 1970 to 1989, and, in 2000, founded the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, which gives free classical music concerts at various locations in the Boston area. On September 1, 2010, he was named Conductor Laureate of the Boston Landmarks Orchestra.

Miguel Alberto Harth-Bedoya is a Peruvian conductor. He was formerly music director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra from 2000 to 2020 and chief conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra from 2013 to 2020. Starting the Fall of 2023, Harth-Bedoya became the Mary Franks Thompson Director of Orchestral Studies and Music Director of the Baylor University Symphony Orchestra.
The Avanti! Chamber Orchestra is a Finnish ensemble that focuses on contemporary music. The ensemble when it performs varies in size from a solo player to a symphony orchestra. Avanti! Chamber Orchestra won the Gramophone Prize with their first recording. The Orchestra also holds a music festival of its own each summer.
Maria Badstue is a Danish orchestral conductor. She came to attention after winning the special prize at the prestigious Lovro von Matacic Competition 2011. Following the award she debuted with the Copenhagen Philharmonic in Tivoli Hall May 2013. Black conductors are musicians of African, Caribbean, African-American ancestry and other members of the African diaspora who are musical ensemble leaders who direct classical music performances, such as an orchestral or choral concerts, or jazz ensemble big band concerts by way of visible gestures with the hands, arms, face and head. Conductors of African descent are rare, as the vast majority are male and Caucasian.
Sebastian Hilli is a Finnish composer. Hilli studied composition at the Sibelius Academy and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Lauri Kilpiö, Michael Jarrell and Veli-Matti Puumala. Hilli's works are published exclusively by Schott Music.
