Camila Alejandra Flores Oporto (born 9 February 1987) is a Chilean lawyer and politician who currently serves as a deputy in the National Congress of Chile. [2] [3]
She earned her law degree from Andrés Bello National University in 2012, graduating with honors. Prior to her parliamentary career, she worked in public administration, holding positions such as Deputy Director of Community Development in the municipality of Cerro Navia and legal advisor to the National Gendarmerie during the first administration of President Sebastián Piñera.
Flores is a prominent figure within the conservative wing of her party, National Renewal (RN), [4] and is known for her public support of the 1973–1990 military regime led by General Augusto Pinochet. [5] [6] [7] While she has condemned the human rights violations committed during the dictatorship, she has emphasized what she considers its role in restoring national stability and shaping Chile's institutional framework.
Her stance has positioned her as one of the most outspoken right-wing voices [8] [9] [10] within her party and has attracted both support and criticism in national political debate. [11]
She is the daughter of David Flores Godoy and Verónica Oporto González, originally from Nontuelá. In her childhood, Flores attended the Manuel de Salas High School in Casablanca, graduating from high school in 2004. She then enrolled at the Andrés Bello National University School of Law, in Viña del Mar and Santiago.[ citation needed ]
On 22 July 2010, at her graduation ceremony, she received the Academic Excellence Award. Finally, Flores graduated as a lawyer on 20 January 2012.[ citation needed ]
Flores joined the National Renewal party (RN) when she was 18, inspired by Andrés Allamand and Alberto Cardemil. Within the party youth (JRN), Flores has held the positions of district president and national councilor.[ citation needed ]
In August 2017, she presented her candidacy for the Chamber of Deputies for the then-new District No. 6 of the Valparaíso Region, and was elected for the 2018–2022 legislative term the LV legislative period. In Congress, she served on the committees on Constitution, Legislation, Justice, and Regulations; Water Resources and Desertification; and Emergencies, Disasters, and Firefighters. She also served on the RN Parliamentary Commission.[ citation needed ]
