The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) is a Hockey Canada sanctioned league based in Canada and the United States and is currently the only coast-to-coast minor hockey league in Canada with teams ranging from British Columbia to PEI.

The CSSHL was founded in 2009 with five Hockey Canada Accredited Schools based in Alberta and British Columbia. The CSSHL was specifically designed to enable like-minded student athletes an increased level of competition and exposure.

Today, the CSSHL currently has grown to 84 teams from 26 different Hockey Canada Accredited Schools/Schools with Residence spread across eight divisions: U18 Prep, Female U18 Prep, Eastern U18 Prep, U17 Prep, Eastern U17 Prep, U16 Prep, U15 Prep and U15.

History

Founded in 2009, the five original members of the CSSHL were the Banff Hockey Academy, Edge School, International Hockey Academy, Okanagan Hockey Academy and the Pursuit of Excellence.

Angela Ruggiero American womens ice hockey player

Angela Marie Ruggiero is an American former ice hockey defenseman, gold medalist, and four-time Olympian. She was a member of the International Olympic Committee from 2010-2018 and served as a member of the Executive Board of the IOC after being elected the Chairperson of the IOC Athletes' Commission, the body that represents all Olympic athletes worldwide, a post which she held from 2016 to 2018.

Shaftesbury High School is a public high school located in the Tuxedo neighbourhood of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It has a population of 750 students from Charleswood, Tuxedo and Linden Woods. They are included in the Pembina Trails School Division's International Student Program (ISP) and recently acquired the RHA Nationals Boys Hockey Team.

The Junior Women's Hockey League is an ice hockey league established in 2007 by Bill Driscoll and Kush Sidhu, coaches of North American Hockey Academy and the Washington Pride, respectively, in order to provide opportunities for young females to develop into collegiate student-athletes. U19, U16 and U14 divisions are sanctioned by the JWHL.

Canadian womens ice hockey history

The first instances of organized women's ice hockey in Canada date back to the 1890s when it was played at the university level. The Women's Hockey Association claims that the city of Ottawa, Ontario hosted the first game in 1891. In 1920, Lady Meredith, wife of Sir Vincent Meredith of Montreal donated the Lady Meredith Cup to the Quebec Ladies' Hockey Association, said to be the first women's ice hockey trophy to be competed for in Canada. In February 1921 a women's international championship series was played in conjunction with the Pacific Coast Hockey Association. One of the first professional teams were the Vancouver Amazons from the 1920s. They were the first women's hockey team from Vancouver to participate in the invitational women's hockey tournament sponsored by the Banff Winter Carnival. On December 16, 1922, a meeting was held to announce the formation of the Ladies Ontario Hockey Association. The Dominion Women's Amateur Hockey Association was founded in winter 1933. Lady Bessborough, the wife of Governor General of Canada Lord Bessborough donated a championship trophy.

Banff Academy Bears

The Banff Hockey Academy Bears were a Junior "B" Ice Hockey team based in Banff, Alberta, Canada. They are members of the South Division of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League (HJHL) as well as members of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). They play their home games at Banff Recreation Centre.

Christine Bestland is a Canadian ice hockey player in the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program. Prior to Mercyurst, Bestland was involved with Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence.

Tahoe Prep Hockey Academy is the first hockey preparatory boarding school in California. It is located in South Lake Tahoe, California on 16.2 acres in the Meyers community. It provides elite high altitude training, athletics and fully accredited NCAA college preparatory academics for student-athletes in the 9th thru 12th grade. Tahoe Prep Academy also offers an additional year for post-graduate students.

Taro Hirose is a Canadian professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL).
