Ahfad University for Women is a private women's university in Omdurman, Sudan that was founded in 1966, by Yusuf Badri, son of the Mahdist soldier Babiker Badri. The university began with only 23 students and 3 teachers. It was the first Sudanese women's college. The current president is Prof. Gasim Badri, Yusuf Badri's son.

Omdurman Ahlia University (OAU) is a community non-profit university in Omdurman, Sudan. It was opened on 1 November 1986 as Omdurman Ahlia College, and was upgraded to University status on 7 May 1995.
Omdurman Islamic University is a university built on an area of size about 800 feddans in Omdurman, Sudan. While the school is primarily oriented toward Islamic studies, it serves other fields of studies as well, such as engineering, agriculture and medicine. Future University (FU), formerly known as Computer Man College or (CMC), is an Information and communications technology university in Sudan. It was established in 1991 as the first college to introduce an Information Technology program in the country. It was also one of the first to introduce Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering and Architecture & Design programs. It was upgraded to a university in August 2010 by the Sudanese Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The university adopts the credit hours system in its education process. Currently, the university contains seven faculties, each offering several programs.
The Sudanese conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile was an armed conflict in the Sudanese states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N), a northern affiliate of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) in South Sudan. After some years of relative calm following the 2005 agreement which ended the second Sudanese civil war between the Sudanese government and SPLM rebels, fighting broke out again in the lead-up to South Sudan independence on 9 July 2011, starting in South Kordofan on 5 June and spreading to the neighboring Blue Nile state in September. SPLM-N, splitting from newly independent SPLM, took up arms against the inclusion of the two southern states in Sudan with no popular consultation and against the lack of democratic elections. The conflict is intertwined with the War in Darfur, since in November 2011 SPLM-N established a loose alliance with Darfuri rebels, called Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF).

The Bayan University is an educational institution based in the city of Khartoum, Sudan. It was established in 1997 as the "Bayan College of Science and Technology", and admitted the first students in 1998. The university offers diplomas in Construction Engineering and Construction, Information Technology and Engineering of medical equipment. It offers bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems and Electronic Engineering. The university is a member of the Sudanese University Libraries Consortium.

Gada Kadoda is a Sudanese Engineer and associate professor at Garden City College for Science and Technology. She teaches at the University of Khartoum, where she introduced a course in knowledge management. She has previously served as President of the Sudanese Knowledge Society. She was selected as one of the BBC 100 Women in 2019.
