Qiu Jian is a male Chinese sports shooter who competed for Team China at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Men's 50 metre rifle prone was one of the thirteen shooting events at the 1988 Summer Olympics. It was the first Olympic three positions competition to feature final shooting. Miroslav Varga equalled the world record with a perfect 600 in the qualification round, and retained half of his two-point pre-final lead until the end of the competition.

Kurt Ivar Björn Johansson was a Swedish shooter who competed at the 1948, 1960 and 1968 Olympics. In 1948 in London he placed fourth in the free rifle, three positions, 300 m event. In 1960 he finished 19th in the same event and 15th in the 50 m rifle prone competition. In 1968 he placed 17th, 20th and 26th in the mixed free rifle, three positions, 300 m, mixed small-bore rifle, three positions, 50 m, and mixed small-bore rifle, prone, 50 m, respectively.

He has collected a career tally of fourteen medals and broke eight world junior records in air rifle shooting at major international competitions, spanning the Youth Olympics, Asian Games, World Championships, and World Cup series. Having pursued the sport since age 12, Yang trained full-time as a member of the Chinese shooting team, at the sports academy in Chengde, under his personal coach and 2000 Olympic champion Cai Yalin.

Timothy Quentin Lowndes is an Australian sport shooter. He has competed for Australia in rifle shooting at two Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic final in 2004, finishing twelfth in the rifle three positions. Apart from his Olympic career, Lowndes has won a total of seven medals in a major international competition, spanning two editions of the Commonwealth Games, and the Oceanian Championships. Throughout his sporting career, Lowndes trains full-time under Yugoslav-born head coach and 1976 Olympian Miroslav Šipek of the national team, while he shoots at Townsville Smallbore Rifle Club on the outskirts of Melbourne.

Christer Mats Roger Hansson is a Swedish sport shooter. He has competed for Sweden in rifle shooting at two Olympics, and has attained numerous top ten finishes in a major international competition, spanning the ISSF World Cup series and the European Championships, Hansson trains under head coach Stefan Lindblom for the national team, while shooting at Mönsterås SF.

Beáta Krzyzewsky is a Hungarian sport shooter. She competed for Hungary in rifle shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and has won a gold medal in small-bore rifle prone at the 2007 European Championships in Granada, Spain. Krzyzewsky trains for the Angyalföldi Civilian Rifle Association in Budapest under her longtime coach György Slita.

Cassio Cesar de Mello Rippel is a Brazilian sport shooter. He has been a finalist in five out of eleven World Cup meets throughout his shooting career, and later became the Pan American Games rifle prone champion in 2015, securing him a quota place on the host nation's team for Rio 2016. Apart from his marksmanship success, Rippel serves as a military officer of the Brazilian Army and trains for the Brazilian national team under head coach Oleg Mykhaylov, a two-time Olympic rifle shooter representing Ukraine.

Seonaid McIntosh is a British sports shooter who became the World Champion at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in the 50m Prone Rifle event. In 2019 she became Britain's most successful female rifle shooter of all time, winning five World Cup medals. She also became the first British Woman to rank World #1 for the 50m Rifle Three Position event and became European Champion in the 300m Rifle Prone event with an equal World Record score.

The free rifle is a group of events held at the Olympics, beginning in 1896 and continuing to the current programme. Current nomenclature drops the "free" and refers to the event type as simply the "rifle." The women's 50 metre version has also been referred to as the "standard" and "sport" rifle. The "free" rifle is distinct from the military rifle, air rifle, and small-bore rifle.
