Captain Rattan Singh was a freedom fighter and Punjabi politician who was the Member of Punjab Legislative Assembly (1962-1977) and also served as Minister of State for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in Ram Kishan and Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir's cabinet and Minister of Rural Development in Zail Singh cabinet. Rattan Singh completed Chartered accountant from University of Edinburgh. Then went to Malaysia for work. [5]
When he met General Mohan Singh who formed Indian National Army (INA),he was influenced from his spirit and he left his job and joined INA. He became General's Aide-de-camp of General Mohan Singh. [4]
His political career started when he entered into Punjab Legislative Assembly from Garhshankar Assembly Constituency in 1962 and then he won next two elections from the same Constituency. Ram Kishan and Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir inducted him into his cabinet in 1964 and 1966 respectively. [5]
In 1967 and 1969,when Non-Congress governments formed in Punjab,he became the Deputy Leader of Opposition. [4]
In 1972 he won election from Kum Kalan Assembly Constituency and became Minister of Rural Development in Giani Zail Singh's cabinet. However,he resigned from the Cabinet due to differences with Chief Minister and took retirement from active politics.
After taking retirement from active politics,he worked for the farmers welfare in Punjab and also introduced many new reforms in Agriculture sector. He is also known for introduction of High-yielding variety wheat and other crops which were tested by Punjab Agricultural University. [5]
Giani Zail Singh was an Indian politician from Punjab who served as the seventh president of India from 1982 to 1987 and 9th Chief Minister of Punjab. He was the first Sikh to become president.

Politics in reorganised present-day Punjab is dominated by mainly three parties –Indian National Congress,Aam Aadmi Party and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). Other prominent party is Bahujan Samaj Party especially in Doaba region founded by Kanshi Ram of Rupnagar district. In 1992 BSP won 9 seats Vidhan Sabha elections. Also BSP won 3 lok sabha seats from Punjab in 1996 general elections and only Garhshanker seat in 1997 Vidhan Sabha elections. Communist parties too have some influence in the Malwa area. In the 2014 general elections,the first-time contesting Aam Aadmi Party got 4 out of 13 seats in Punjab by winning 34 of the total 117 assembly segments,coming second in 7,third in 73 and fourth in the rest 3 segments. The support for the Aam Aadmi Party increased later in Punjab. The current Government was elected in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections and the AAP won 92 out of 117 Assembly seats with Bhagwant Mann as the Chief Minister. The Congress flows down to get only 18 seats.
Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir was an Indian politician and Punjabi language writer. He was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1 November 1966 to 8 March 1967.

He is remembered in Punjab both as a freedom-fighter and an acclaimed writer and columnist. He was an officer in Indian National Army (INA) and a close lieutenant of Subhas Chandra Bose. Saini worked with the wire service of INA and Arzi Hukumat-e-Azad Hind or Provisional Government of Free India,more simply,Indian government in exile.
Satyapal Dang (1920–2013) was an Indian independence activist,writer and later-day politician from Punjab. He was a legislator of Punjab State Legislative Assembly,representing the Communist Party of India for four terms and a Minister of Food and Civil Supplies in the United Front ministry led by Justice Gurnam Singh. He was also involved in trade union movement in India,aligning with the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC). The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan,in 1998,for his contributions to society.

As the patron of SAD he exercised a strong influence on the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. The Government of India awarded him the second-highest civilian award,the Padma Vibhushan,in 2015.

He is second term MLA in the Punjab Legislative Assembly representing the Garhshankar Assembly constituency in Punjab,India,serving since 2017. He is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party. Major Harinder Singh was an Indian politician in Punjab who served as Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly from 1969 to 1971,and also as Minister of Revenue and Industry in Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir's cabinet from 1966 to 1967. He also remained the member of Central Legislative Assembly by winning election in 1945. Singh died in Amritsar on 31 August 1972,at the age of 55.
