Carl Johan Michelet (25 July 1826 - 30 January 1902) was a Norwegian lawyer and civil servant. He served as Mayor of Oslo and was elected as a member of the Norwegian Parliament (Storting). [1]
He was born at Blaker in Aurskog in Akershus county, Norway. His parents were Christian Frederik Michelet (1792-1874) and Edle Michaeline (1804-1892). His father was a Major General in the Norwegian military. He attended the University of Christiania and took the Norwegian bar exam in 1849. He was an associate for seven years until he became permitted to practice law (overrettssakførar) in Christiania (now Oslo). [2] [3]
He was a police chief of Christiania from 1863 to 1870 and was a member of the Royal Commission of the Police in 1864. Michelet was elected to the Christiania city council in 1862 and was appointed mayor during the period 1866–1868. He was a member of the city council until 1882.
He was also elected to the Norwegian Parliament as a representative of Jarlsberg og Larvik County (Jarlsberg og Larviks amt) from 1886 to 1891, then again from 1895 to 1901. [1]
Michelet was married in 1853 to Olava Emilie Mathea Buhring (1826-1879) with whom he had three children. They were the parents of Christian Fredrik Michelet (1860–1935) who was an equestrian and military officer. After her death, he was married in 1882 with Johanne Bruun (1840-1887). Michelet was awarded a number of honours, including the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav in 1901. He died in Christiania. [1]

The area is now part of Tønsberg Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Kirkevoll. Other villages in the rural, agricultural municipality included: Brekkeåsen, Rånerudåsen, Svinevoll, Sørby, and Gretteåsen.

The area is now part of Holmestrand Municipality in the traditional district of Jarlsberg. The administrative centre was the village of Botne where the Botne Church is located. Other villages in the municipality included Hillestad and Gullhaug.
Sandar is a former municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The 120-square-kilometre (46 sq mi) municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1968. The area is now part of Sandefjord Municipality. The administrative centre was located at Sandar, right by the Sandar Church in what is now the town of Sandefjord.
Vossestrand is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county in Norway. The 527-square-kilometre (203 sq mi) municipality existed from 1868 until its dissolution in 1964. It was located in the northern part of the present-day municipality of Voss. The municipality was centered on the nearby villages of Vinje and Oppheim, where the two churches for the municipality are located: Vinje Church and Oppheim Church. The large lake Oppheimsvatnet sat in the central part of the municipality. The administrative centre was at Vasstrondi, on the south side of the lake Oppheimsvatnet.

The area is now part of Drammen Municipality in Buskerud county. The administrative centre was the town of Svelvik. The village of Nesbygda was also located in the municipality.

Collett is a Norwegian family of English origin, descended from English-born merchant James Collett, who settled in Christiania in 1683. He married Karen Leuch, and died as the richest man in the city. The firm he founded, Collett & Leuch, later renamed Collett & Søn, was continued for four generations until 1821. The family became part of the patriciate of Christiania in the 18th century. His descendants continued to play important roles in Norwegian history and owned several properties, such as Buskerud Manor, Store Ullevål Manor, Flateby, Økern Manor and Firma Albert Collett. One of the most well-known family members are statesman and First Minister Jonas Collett.

Børsa is a former municipality in the old Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. The 61-square-kilometre (24 sq mi) municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1965. The municipality originally encompassed the coastal areas along the Orkdalsfjorden and the Gaulosen in what is now Skaun and Orkland municipalities. The administrative centre was the village of Børsa where Børsa Church is located.

The area is now part of Tønsberg Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Ramnes. Other villages in Ramnes included Vivestad, Fon, Bergsåsen, and Linnestad.
Johan Altenborg Paus was a Norwegian artillery officer who served as war commissioner. Prior to this he served as head of the Artillery Officers' School from 1868 to 1871 and inspector for the Main Line and Kongsvinger Line until 1874. He was also a lecturer at the Norwegian Military Academy, served on several government-appointed committees on military issues, was an active freemason, served on the boards of Christiania Military Society and the Norwegian Association of Hunters and Anglers. A member of the Paus family, he was a first cousin of the playwright Henrik Ibsen and the son of the lawyer Henrik Johan Paus. He was named for his father's foster father and uncle, Johan Altenburg, Henrik Ibsen's maternal grandfather. Henrik Ibsen shared the names Henrik Johan with his father. Johan Altenborg Paus was the son-in-law of the timber magnate Christopher Tostrup and the father of the papal chamberlain, art collector and philanthropist, Count Christopher Paus. He was a Knight of the Order of Vasa and there is a painting of him by Nils Gude (1886). Upon his death, he was described as "a personality much loved by comrades, superiors, and subordinates." He is interred at the Cemetery of Our Saviour in Oslo.
