The series airs on BBC One. Series 40 will be the final series under BBC Studios' current production contract; production companies were invited to tender for three subsequent years in May 2025. [1] BBC Studios is expected to bid to continue as the production company, and Roath Lock Studios will remain as the production base for Casualty. The series' fictional setting, however, will move from Holby for the first time, to a hospital in Wales. What we will have on the other side of it is a huge opportunity". [3]

The series begins with the fifth episode of the mini-series Supply and Demand, following which the show went on its regular autumn break. It is expected to return in late 2025. [4]
