Cats in Space (styled CATS in SPACE - The Band) [1] [2] is a British rock band formed in Horsham, West Sussex, in 2015 by guitarist Greg Hart and drummer Steevi Bacon. Following the band's inception, vocalist Paul Manzi, keyboardist Andy Stewart, bassist Jeff Brown, and second guitarist Dean Howard were recruited to complete the official lineup. In mid-2019, vocalist Paul Manzi announced he would leave the band to join The Sweet after the first half of ‘The Narnia Tour’. Soon after Manzi’s departure from the band, Mark Pascall joined the band as their new lead vocalist. After the tour, the band parted ways with Pascall. He was then replaced by Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds stage show vocalist, Damien Edwards. [3]

History

Cats in Space began to work on their debut album Too Many Gods. [4]

The band released their first single from the album on 24 August 2015 via YouTube, named "Mr. Heartache". [5]

Cats in Space announced their second album, the follow-up to Too Many Gods. [6]

Track two, "The Mad Hatter's Tea Party" (which the band had previously showcased on the 2017 Thunder support tour) was released on 21 July 2017, as a music promo on YouTube. [7]

Tours and Shows

Cats in Space made their debut appearance at London's The Half Moon, [8] Putney, on 6 January 2016. They made subsequent appearances leading them to accept their fourth show at the Stone Free Festival on Sunday 19 June 2016. [9] [10]

Their fifth performance was at The Ramblin' Man Fair, [11] on the new Rising Stage [12] at Mote Park, Maidstone, Kent, on 24 July 2016. The line up featured many classic rock bands including Whitesnake, Europe, Thin Lizzy, Thunder, Airbourne, and Black Stone Cherry. [13]

Thunder UK TourMarch 2017

In December 2016, UK rock band Thunder announced that a studio album entitled Rip It Up would be released on 10 February 2017. This would also coincide with a number of live dates. Cats in Space was confirmed on 23 January 2017 as the official UK tour support. [14] [15]

British Summer Time (BST) Hyde Park, London, UK

On 27 March 2017, Cats in Space were added to the Phil Collins BST Hyde Park concert line-up. The concert took place on 30 June 2017. [16] [17]

Fairport Cropredy Convention 2017

On 12 August 2017, the band played an hour-long set to an over 20,000 capacity at the Fairport's Cropredy Convention. [18]

Deep Purple Long Goodbye UK Tour 2017

An announcement was made onstage on the final night of the Scarecrow headline tour that Cats in Space had been added to the whole UK leg of the Deep Purple 2017 arena tour. [19]

Status Quo - Plugged in Live and Rockin' Winter UK Tour 2017

Cats in Space opened ten dates for Status Quo on their Plugged In Live and Rockin' tour. [20]

Bonnie Tyler - The London Palladium, UK 2019

Cats in Space opened for Bonnie Tyler on 18 September 2019 at The London Palladium. [21] [22]

Blue Öyster Cult - UK Tour 2022

Cats in Space opened for Blue Öyster Cult. [23] [24]

Firefest Festival (2024)

In November 2023 it was announced that Cats in Space would perform at Firefest Festival (10 Years After) to be held in the UK at Manchester Academy on 11-13 October 2024. [25] The band were followed on the Saturday night by Touch and Robin McAuley. [26]

"Tie Your Mother Down" is a song by the British rock band Queen, written by lead guitarist Brian May. It is the opening track and the second single from their 1976 album A Day at the Races. On its original release as a single in 1977 the song peaked at 31 in the UK Singles Chart. More than 20 years later, it was released as a double a-side to "No-One but You " where it reached 13 in UK Singles Chart. On the album the song is preceded by a one-minute instrumental intro featuring a Shepard tone melody, performed by Brian May, which is reprised in the ending of "Teo Torriatte": this was intended to create a "circle" within the album.

<i>Hot Space</i> 1982 studio album by Queen

Hot Space is the tenth studio album by the British rock band Queen. It was released on 4 May 1982 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom and by Elektra Records in the United States. Marking a notable shift in direction from their earlier work, they employed many elements of disco, funk, R&B, dance, pop and new wave music on the album. Combined with the ongoing backlash against disco music, this made the album less popular with fans who preferred the traditional rock style they had come to associate with the band. Queen's decision to record a dance-oriented album germinated with the massive success of their 1980 hit "Another One Bites the Dust" in the US.

Tyketto is an American hard rock band based in New York City. It was formed in 1987 by former Waysted vocalist Danny Vaughn alongside Brooke St. James (guitar), Jimi Kennedy (bass), and Michael Clayton (drums).

SPAN is a Norwegian rock band that formed in 2000 from the remnants of two other outfits, Explicit Lyrics and Squid. Self-proclaimed as "Norwegian Turbo-Rock 'n' Roll Commandos", the band was made up of Jarle Bernhoft on lead vocals and guitar, Fridtjof Nilsen on guitar and backing vocals, Vemund Stavnes on bass and Fredrik Wallumrød on drums and backing vocals. When Stavnes left in 2003, he was replaced by Kim Nordbæk.

The album was released on 24 August 1992 by EMI Records in Europe and Japan, and by Geffen Records in the United States.

H.E.A.T is a Swedish hard rock group that was formed in Upplands Väsby in 2007, when the prior bands Dream and Trading Fate merged. Beckett were an English progressive rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1970. The band released one self-titled album in April 1974 and disbanded shortly thereafter. Shooting at the Sun is the sixth studio album by English hard rock band Thunder. Recorded from October to December 2002 at Jacobs Studios in Farnham, it was produced the band's lead guitarist Luke Morley and engineered and mixed by Rupert Coulson. The album was initially released online by the band's own label STC Recordings on 3 March 2003, followed by a physical release in Japan by Victor Entertainment on 5 March and in Europe by Frontiers Records on 7 April.

Wonder Days was the first Thunder studio album to be released since Bang! in 2008, as well as the band's first release on earMusic with whom they signed after returning from their second breakup in 2014.

They Think It's All Over... It Is Now is the third live album by English hard rock band Thunder. Recorded on 4 May 2000 at Dingwalls in London, the last date of the band's UK Farewell Tour, it was produced by the band's guitarists Luke Morley and Ben Matthews, both of whom also mixed it. The album was initially released on 10 July 2000 as the band's first release on Papillon Records. It was later issued in Europe by Repertoire Records on 27 November 2000.

The Dust Coda are a four-piece British rock band residing in London, England. The band are signed to Earache Records and were founded in 2013 by Australian-born vocalist John Drake and guitarist Adam Mackie. The rhythm section consists of drummer Scott Miller and bassist Tony Ho.
