Cecil Andrews Senior High School is a public co-educational high day school, located on Seville Drive in the suburb of Armadale, in part of the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia.
Mixed-sex education, also known as mixed-gender education, co-education or coeducation, is a system of education where males and females are educated together. Whereas single-sex education was more common up to the 19th century, mixed-sex education has since become standard in many cultures, particularly in Western countries. Single-sex education, however, remains prevalent in many Muslim countries. The relative merits of both systems have been the subject of debate.
A day school—as opposed to a boarding school—is an educational institution where children are given instruction during the day, after which the students return to their homes. The term can also be used to emphasize the length of full-day programs as opposed to after-school programs, as in Jewish day school.
Armadale is a suburb of Perth within the City of Armadale, located on the south-eastern edge of Perth's metropolitan area. The major junction of the South Western and Albany Highways, which connect Perth with the South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia respectively, is located within the suburb. It is also the terminus of the Armadale railway line, one of five major railway lines to service Perth.
Formerly known as West Armadale High School, it was established in 1980 [1] and caters to students from Year 7 to Year 12.
The school is named after Cecil Rollo Paten Andrews, an Inspector General of Schools in Western Australia from 1903 to 1912 and Director of Education of the WA Department of Education from 1912 to 1930. The school was renamed in Andrews' honour through the efforts of its foundation principal, Howard Rintoul. [2]
The Department of Education is the government body responsible for education in Western Australia as well as on Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Its head office is in East Perth.
