The Celtic League Cup is an ice hockey league contested by teams from both Scotland and Ireland. It was introduced in for the 2008/09 season with the purpose of raising the profile of the sport in Ireland and increasing interest in Scotland. Its teams also play in the Northern Premier League or the Irish Hockey League.

Shinty is a team game played with sticks and a ball. Shinty is now played mainly in the Scottish Highlands and amongst Highland migrants to the big cities of Scotland, but it was formerly more widespread in Scotland, and was even played in northern England into the second half of the 20th century and other areas in the world where Scottish Highlanders migrated.

In the infancy of many organised sports, the Home Nations, England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland were heavily involved in setting out the formal rules of many sports, and formed among the earliest separate governing bodies, national teams and domestic league competitions. After 1922, some sports formed separate bodies for Northern Ireland, though many continued to be organised on an all-Ireland basis. For this reason, in many though not all sports, most domestic and international sport is carried on a Home Nations basis, and England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are recognised as national entities.
The Fédération Internationale de Hockey, commonly known by the acronym FIH, is the international governing body of field hockey and indoor field hockey. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. FIH is responsible for field hockey's major international tournaments, notably the Hockey World Cup.

Belfast Harlequins is a multi-sports club located off the Malone Road in south Belfast, Northern Ireland. The club name provides the overall umbrella for rugby union, men's and ladies' hockey, and squash. The club is associated on and off the field with Methodist College Belfast (MCB).
The British ice hockey league champions are the winners of the regular season of the highest ice hockey league in the United Kingdom, currently the Elite Ice Hockey League. The Edinburgh Capitals (SNL) were an ice hockey team based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Formed in 1998, they were the 'B' team for the Elite League Capitals with whom they shared their name. Field hockey is a moderately popular sport in Australia. It's usually referred to as simply "hockey" and is played in winter, with a season typically starting in March and April. The national governing body, Hockey Australia has 162,176 registered players as of 2020, with a 48% to 52% split of male to female players. Australia is home to two of the best national hockey teams in the world, with both the men and the women having won the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and World Cup one or more times.
The English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) is the governing body of ice hockey in England and Wales. It was formed in 1982 and featured around 60 teams. EIHA is one of several bodies regulating ice hockey in the United Kingdom, along with Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH), the Northern Ireland Ice Hockey Association (IHNI), and Ice Hockey UK, which governs the national ice hockey teams of Great Britain as a national member of the International Ice Hockey Association (IIHF). In 2016, support for uniting the associations under one central organization has been expressed by heads of each of the various organizations, but, as of 2020, there are no actionable plans to be executed in the near future.
Kelburne Hockey Club is a Scottish field hockey club, founded in 1969 and based in Paisley. Kelburne today operates five senior men's teams, three senior women's teams and numerous junior teams at all age group levels. The club has dominated Scottish domestic hockey in recent seasons. Kelburne HC has also supplied the Scottish National Team with the vast majority of the Gents' team as well as consistently being represented in the Scotland national ladies team. The club has also had success in Europe.
Edinburgh University Men's Hockey Club is the official men's hockey club for The University of Edinburgh. It currently comprises eight men's teams, which makes it the largest men's university field hockey and sports club in the United Kingdom, with over 190 active members.
The Ireland women's national field hockey team is organised by Hockey Ireland and represents both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in international women's field hockey competitions, including the Women's Hockey World Cup and the Women's EuroHockey Nations Championship. They have previously competed in the Women's Intercontinental Cup, the Women's Hockey Champions Challenge, Women's FIH Hockey World League and the Women's FIH Hockey Series. On 2 March 1896, Ireland played England in the first ever women's international field hockey match. Ireland were finalists and silver medallists at the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup and competed at the 2020 Olympic tournament.
Loughborough Students' Hockey Club is the field hockey club of Loughborough University.
Michael Watt is a former Ireland men's field hockey international. Between 2006 and 2016 Watt made 201 appearances and scored 54 goals for Ireland. He was a member of the Ireland team that won the bronze medal at the 2015 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship. He also represented Ireland at the 2016 Summer Olympics. At club level, Watt has won the Irish Senior Cup with Instonians, the Scottish Hockey Cup with Grange and the Men's Irish Hockey League with Lisnagarvey. He also played and scored for both Grange and Surbiton in the Euro Hockey League.
John Jermyn is a former Ireland men's field hockey international. Between 2002 and 2018 Jermyn made 179 appearances and scored 93 goals for Ireland. He represented Ireland at the 2007 and 2011 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championships and at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2012, Jermyn set the new record as career top goal scorer for Ireland, eventually increasing the record to 93 goals by the end of his career with the national team; his record was not broken until 2018.
