Central Falls School District is a school district headquartered in Central Falls, Rhode Island, United States. It serves the City of Central Falls.
The school district fired all teachers at Central Falls High School when they declined to spend 25 minutes more per day as part of remediating deficiencies under the No Child Left Behind Act. The school had been identified as one of the worst in the state. The teachers union sued the school district challenging the requirement that teachers must reapply for their jobs. [1]
In accordance with NCLB legislation, schools deemed failing have four options to follow for restructuring. The teachers' union refused to accept to work 25 minutes of extra time under the "transforming model", so the superintendent went ahead and chose the "turnaround model", which requires a district to fire the entire staff (teachers and administrators). They may rehire up to 50% of the teachers for the beginning of the next school year. The school has a graduation rate of around 50%, and 7% of 11th-graders were proficient in math in 2009. Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a measurement defined by the United States federal No Child Left Behind Act that allows the U.S. Department of Education to determine how every public school and school district in the country is performing academically according to results on standardized tests. As defined by National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), AYP is "the amount of annual achievement growth to be expected by students in a particular school, district, or state in the U.S. federal accountability system, No Child Left Behind (NCLB)." AYP has been identified as one of the sources of controversy surrounding George W. Bush administration's Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Private schools are not required to make AYP.
Yough School District is a midsized, rural public school district in southwestern Pennsylvania in Westmoreland County. It serves West Newton, Herminie, Smithton, Sutersville, Madison, and Arona boroughs, the communities of Gratztown, Turkeytown, Fitzhenry, Reduction, Scott Haven and Lowber, as well as Sewickley and South Huntingdon Townships. The Yough School District received more than $13.5 million in state funding in school year 2007–08. The district was named after the Youghiogheny River.

Central Falls High School (CFHS) is an urban Senior High School in Central Falls, Rhode Island that serves students from grades nine through twelve. It is centrally located within the city of Central Falls so that students are able to walk to and from school. It is a part of the Central Falls School District. Beyond academics, the high school offers a wide variety of co-curricular activities and clubs. Their co-curricular activities and clubs help their students develop their individual talents and achieve personal goals outside the classroom.

The SEAs, in turn, award subgrants to local educational agencies for the purpose of supporting focused school improvement efforts. In 2009, the Obama administration, and specifically U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, challenged the education community to make the lowest-achieving schools its highest priority.
