History

Established in 1949, by the eminent scientist Dr. Homi Bhabha who also laid the foundation stone of the school. The approximate student strength of this school is 20,000. The teaching faculty strength is around 3000 (with a number of para-teachers, part-time teachers recruited as a part of Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan). [1]

The school boasts of 'Prafulla Smriti Vignan Sanstha' which has a collection of biological samples, some rare.specimens of human skeletons and fossils of Vedic India. The school has 6 buildings. The school is provides an all-round education in the field of science, astronomy, athletics, art and music. The school has a tie-up with the TechFest IIT Bombay, which conducts different quizzes and competitions throughout the year in the school. The school boasts of ranks by its bright students who secure a rank in the boards almost every year. Apart from this, almost every year the students of (+12) get an All India Rank in exams like JEE and NEET. Moreover, the school has a tie up with the British Council and, also is successful in attaining a coveted spot in the rankings of Times School Survey and EducationWorld school rankings.

Some of the major developments in this school were due to the late Paresh Chandra Malakar, the ex-headmaster of the school. Dr. Subesh Kuity had a brief period as headmaster. The present HM is Ashis Patra, an ex-student of the school.
