Champtala is a refugee camp in Surkh Rod District, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.
The camp holds (as of December 2008) over 1,250 refugees who have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan. Some of the refugees travel 30 km to the city of Jalalabad to work as laborers.
The camp receives some water and facilities from UNHCR and UNICEF. Health assistance is provided by CWS, HNI, and the Afghan Ministry of Public Health.
Jalalabad is the fifth-largest city of Afghanistan. It has a population of about 356,274, and serves as the capital of Nangarhar Province in the eastern part of the country, about 80 miles (130 km) from the capital Kabul. Jalalabad is located at the junction of the Kabul River and the Kunar River in a plateau to the south of the Hindu Kush mountains. It is linked by highways with Kabul to the west and the Pakistani city of Peshawar to the east including through the Khyber Pass.
Gul Agha Sherzai, also known as Mohammad Shafiq, is a politician in Afghanistan. He is the former governor of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan. He previously served as Governor of Kandahar province, in the early 1990s and from 2001 until 2003. In October 2013, Sherzai resigned from his post as governor and formally announced himself as a candidate for Afghanistan's 2014 Presidential Election. He is presently the minister of border and tribal affairs.
Nangarhār also called Nangrahar or Ningrahar, is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country and bordering Logar, Kabul, Laghman and Kunar provinces as well as an international border with Pakistan. It is divided into twenty-two districts and has a population of about 1,735,531, the third highest of the country's 34 provinces. The city of Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar province.
The Shinwari is an ethnic Pashtun tribe of Afghanistan and KPK. Among the famous Cricketers of Afghanistan are Rashid Khan and Samiullah Shinwari The Shinwari tribe is son of Kasi Pashtun tribe settled in the eastern disctricts of Nangarhar Province, in Haska Meyna, Achin, Rodat, Bati Kot, Kot, Chaprahar, Shinwar, Dor Baba and Nazian districts. A major portion of the tribe is centered in Jalalabad City of Afghanistan. These Shinwaris are mostly traders and businessmen. The Shinwari are also located in Kunar, Parwan, Kabul, Kunduz and Balkh Province. Reporting from 2010 states that there are around 400,000 Shinwari in Afghanistan.
Haji Abdul Qadeer was a prominent Northern Alliance leader in Afghanistan and opposed the Taliban. Originally a commander of the Hezb-i Islami Khalis faction during the Soviet-Afghan War, he then served as governor of Nangarhar Province, the head of the Eastern Afghanistan Shura, and later Vice President of Afghanistan and Minister of Public Works in the administration of Hamid Karzai from 19 June 2002 until his assassination on 6 July 2002. He was the older brother of fellow anti-Soviet and Northern Alliance commander Abdul Haq, who was executed in late 2001 by the Taliban.
Kama is a district in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, to the east of Jalalabad. Its population, which is 100% Pashtun, was estimated at 180,000 in 2012. The district is within the heartland of the Mohmand tribe of Pashtuns. The district centre is the village of Sanger Srye Kama. The districts includes most of the Kama Valley.

Suraya Dalil became acting Minister in 2010 and Minister of Public Health (MoPH) in 2012.

Bihsud District is a district of Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. The district, which contains 40 main villages, is located around the city Jalalabad, spanning both sides of the Kabul River. The district was previously a unit which contained the city of Jalalabad, but in 2004 the city became independently administered under the municipality system, and the portions of the district not contained within the city became Bihsud District. Oranges, rice, and sugarcane grow in the fertile district, and the capital city has cane-processing and sugar-refining as well as papermaking industries. The district's year-round summery weather attracts many visitors.
Dr. Syed Ghulam Farooq Mirranay was born in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan in 1950. He is a senior member of the Afghan Social Democratic Party and was an elected member of the House of the People ) from 2005 to 2010. Mirranay is the official spokesperson for the Afghan Mellat Party and speaks both official Afghanistan languages, Pashto and Dari, as well as English.
