Charles Harold Busby (born July 24,1963) is an American politician,engineer,and businessman formerly serving as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from the 111th district. He assumed office in 2012 and served until 2024. He currently serves as the Transportation Commissioner for the Southern District,where he assumed office on January 4,2024.
Busby was born in Laurel,Mississippi,and raised in Pascagoula,Mississippi. He earned an Associate of Science degree in pre-engineering from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of South Alabama in 1991. [1] [2]
Busby first worked as a project engineer for Brown &Root and later for Chevron and the Herzog-Hart Corporation. From 2001 to 2023,he served as the president of Orion Engineering. He also worked for Sirius Technical Services. [1] [2]
He is a member of the Pascagoula Rotary Club,Jackson County Chamber of Commerce,Jackson County Economic Development FDN,American Society of Mechanical Engineers,American Council of Engineering Companies,and the National Rifle Association of America. [1]
Politics
He was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2012. [3] From 2016 to 2023,Busby has served as chair of the House Transportation Committee. [4] He has also served on the state committees of Appropriations,Education,Energy,Gaming,Insurance,Interstate Cooperation,Marine Resources,and Ports,Harbors,and Airports. [3]
On August 10,2022,Busby announced he would run in the 2023 Mississippi elections for Transportation Commissioner for the Southern District, [4] a position held by outgoing Republican Tom King. [5] He won the seat by a large majority against independent Steve Griffin. [6] He assumed office January 4,2024. [2]
He is married to Felicia Hillman and resides in Pascagoula. [1]
Jackson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census,the population was 143,252,making it the fifth-most populous county in Mississippi. Its county seat is Pascagoula. The county was named for Andrew Jackson,general in the United States Army and afterward President of the United States. Jackson County is included in the Pascagoula,MS Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located at the southeastern tip of the state. The county has sandy soil and is in the Piney Woods area. It borders the state of Alabama on its east side. The county was severely damaged by both Hurricane Camille in August 1969 and Hurricane Katrina on August 29,2005,which caused catastrophic effects.

The population was 18,572 at the 2010 census,up from 11,681 at the 2000 census. In 2002,Gautier had annexed land more than doubling its area.

Pascagoula is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County,Mississippi,United States. It is the principal city of the Pascagoula metropolitan area,and is part of the Gulfport–Biloxi–Pascagoula Combined Statistical Area and the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area. The population was 22,392 at the 2010 census,down from 26,200 at the 2000 census. In 2019 the population was 21,699.
Chester Trent Lott Sr. is an American lobbyist,lawyer,author,and politician who represented Mississippi in the United States House of Representatives from 1973 to 1989 and in the United States Senate from 1989 to 2007. Lott served in numerous leadership positions in both chambers of Congress as one of the first of a wave of Republicans winning seats in Southern states that had been solidly Democratic. Later in his career,he served twice as Senate Majority Leader,and also,alternately,Senate Minority Leader. In 2003,he stepped down from the position after controversy due to his praising of Senator Strom Thurmond's 1948 segregationist Dixiecrat presidential bid.

Mississippi's 4th congressional district covers the southeastern region of the state. It includes all of Mississippi's Gulf Coast,stretching ninety miles between the Alabama border to the east and the Louisiana border to the west,and extends north into the Pine Belt region. It includes three of Mississippi's four most heavily populated cities:Gulfport,Biloxi,and Hattiesburg. Other major cities within the district include Bay St. Louis,Laurel,and Pascagoula. A general election was held in the U.S. state of Mississippi on November 3,2015. All of Mississippi's executive officers were up for election. Primary elections were held on August 4,2015,with primary runoffs to be held on August 25,2015 if no candidate received a majority in the primary. The filing deadline for primary ballot access was February 27.

De'Keither Stamps is an American politician serving as a member of the Mississippi Public Service Commission. He ran for the 2023 election to the Mississippi Public Service Commission for the Central District,defeating Republican incumbent Brent Bailey in a rematch of their 2019 race. He assumed office in 2024.
