Charles Yaw Peprah (born February 24, 1983) is a former American football safety and current football scout. He played college football at Alabama. Peprah was drafted by the New York Giants in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He has also been a member of the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys. With the Packers, he won Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Early years

Peprah is the grandson of the former military president of Ghana, general Ignatius Kutu Acheampong. Ruling in a coup d’etat in 1972, Acheampong remained in power until 1977 and was executed in 1979 after a revolution. Acheampong's daughter Elizabeth Acheampong, the last family member to see her father alive, married Josh Peprah, a member of Acheampong's army, and emigrated to Europe and then the United States.^[1]

Peprah was born in Fort Worth, Texas and has two brothers, Richard and Josh, college football players at Wyoming and Wisconsin respectively.^[2] When he was in middle school, his parents divorced, and his father returned to Ghana.^[1] Charlie Peprah attended Plano East Senior High School.^[2]

College career

In 50 games with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Peprah totaled 310 tackles (163 solo), nine interceptions (returned two for touchdowns), five fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles, and 24 passes defensed.

Peprah played various positions for Alabama including right cornerback and safety. In 2004, he was an Academic All-SEC selection, and as a senior in 2005, he was a second-team All-SEC pick. At the 2004 Music City Bowl, he recorded a season-high 11 tackles, 10 of which were solo, but Alabama lost to Minnesota.

At the 2006 Cotton Bowl Classic, he had three tackles and a pass defense against Texas Tech, and Alabama won 13–10.^[2] He graduated from Alabama with a bachelor's degree in marketing and master's degree in financial planning.^[1]

Professional career

New York Giants

The New York Giants drafted Peprah in the fifth round of the 2006 NFL Draft.^[3]

Green Bay Packers

On September 3, 2006, Peprah was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers.^[2]

Peprah played eight games for the Packers and four preseason games for the Giants. On December 10 against the San Francisco 49ers, Peprah ran down Brandon Williams, stopping his punt return at 25 yards. On December 31 against the Chicago Bears, Peprah pushed Bernard Berrian out of bounds after Berrian completed a punt return for seven yards.^[2]

In his second season with the Packers, Peprah played for all 16 regular season and two playoff games for the Packers. Peprah forced a fumble from kick returner Ahmad Bradshaw in the September 16 match against Peprah's former team New York Giants. Tracy White recovered the fumble, and the Packers later scored a touchdown and won the game 35–13. On November 22 against the Detroit Lions, Peprah made the first stops of his career with two solo tackles and overall in the season made three special teams tackles.^[2]

With one start, Peprah played 13 games in 2008 with 19 tackles, two passes defensed, and nine stops on special teams.^[2]

Atlanta Falcons

On November 4, 2009, Peprah signed as a free agent to the Atlanta Falcons and played two games with Atlanta on special teams.^[2]

Green Bay Packers (second stint)

The Packers re-signed Peprah on April 26, 2010.^[4] After playing on special teams on weeks 1 and 2, Peprah spent the third and fourth games of the season sidelined by a thigh injury. In the October 31 game against the New York Jets, Peprah made five tackles and a quarterback pressure, broke up consecutive Jets passes, and knock the ball out of Jerricho Cotchery's possession on a fourth down running attempt.^[5]

Peprah was the leading tackler for the Packers in Super Bowl XLV, a 31–25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Peprah recorded 10 tackles (9 solo). He was the only player in the game to record double digit tackles.^[6]

On March 4, 2011, the Packers re-signed Peprah to a 2-year, $2.5 million deal.^[7] On November 6, he recorded his first interception return for a touchdown in a game against the San Diego Chargers. On July 25, 2012, he was released after he failed a physical with an injured knee.^[8]

Dallas Cowboys

On October 23, 2012, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys to provide depth at the safety position and to replace an injured Matt Johnson.^[9] He wasn't re-signed after the season.

Personal life

In 2016, Peprah was hired by the Green Bay Packers as a scouting assistant. Peprah was promoted to college scout in July 2017.^[10]

Aaron James Hawk is an American sports analyst and former American football linebacker who played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Green Bay Packers fifth overall in the 2006 NFL Draft and he would later win Super Bowl XLV with the team over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also a member of the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. He played college football at Ohio State, where he earned All-American honors twice and won the Lombardi Award as a senior. He won the BCS National Championship with the Buckeyes as a freshman.

Ryan Lamonte Pickett Sr. is an American former professional football player who was a nose tackle for 14 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Pickett was selected with the 29th pick of the first round in the 2001 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. He also played for the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans. With the Packers, he beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.

Anthony B. Smith is a former American football safety who played for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL). After playing college football for Syracuse, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Smith has also been a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, and Tennessee Titans. He is a two-time Super Bowl Champion with the Steelers in 2008 and the Packers in 2010. Smith retired from professional football in 2012.

Busari Alamu Raji Jr. is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Boston College Eagles. Raji was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. William Clay Matthews III is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Robert Joseph Francois is a former American football linebacker. He last played for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL) who he won Super Bowl XLV with against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2009 and was also a member of the Detroit Lions that same preseason. He played college football at Boston College.

Janoris Jermain Jenkins, nicknamed "Jackrabbit", is an American football cornerback who is a free agent. He played college football at North Alabama and Florida and was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Jenkins had his most success as a member of the New York Giants, who he played 4 seasons with and made a Pro Bowl, and also had stints with the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers.

Jason Andrew Pierre-Paul is an American football linebacker who is a free agent. He played college football for the South Florida Bulls and was selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. With the Giants, Pierre-Paul made two Pro Bowls, was first-team All-Pro and won Super Bowl XLVI. With the Buccaneers, Pierre-Paul made his third Pro Bowl and won Super Bowl LV.

The 2010 Green Bay Packers season was the 92nd season overall and their 90th season in the National Football League (NFL). Although they finished with only a respectable 10–6 record, good for a second-place finish in the NFC North, the Packers never lost a game by more than four points, and never trailed by more than seven the entire season, becoming the only team since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to accomplish this. All six of their regular season losses were by a combined 20 points. They entered the playoffs as the NFC's sixth seed. After defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 21–16 in the wild-card round, the Atlanta Falcons 48–21 in the Divisional round, and long time rivals Chicago Bears 21–14 in the NFC Championship, the team advanced to Super Bowl XLV in which they faced the AFC's 2nd seed Pittsburgh Steelers. The Packers defeated the Steelers 31–25 to win their fourth Super Bowl and 13th NFL championship. The Packers became the second overall team after the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers, and the first NFC team, to win the Super Bowl as a sixth seed, as well as becoming the second NFC team to win three straight road playoff games.

Samuel George Shields III is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Miami Hurricanes. Shields was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He won Super Bowl XLV with the team over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ha'Sean Treshon "Ha Ha" Clinton-Dix is an American former professional football player who was a safety for seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the Green Bay Packers. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He later played for the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Bears, before briefly appearing with the Las Vegas Raiders. He is currently the Director of Player Development for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
