Chattogram Railway Station is a railway station in Bangladesh, situated at Battoli, Station Road of Chattogram District. It is one of the largest railway stations of the country. This station has an old and a new terminal.

Old terminal

The old terminal was constructed during the British era. It comprises a two-storied 56.24 m long and 10.37 m wide station building, which was constructed on November 7, 1896. [1]

New Terminal

On September 30, 2013, modernization and remodeling of Chittagong Railway Station started. [2] A new terminal was constructed beside the old terminal.

Chittagong, officially Chattogram, is the second-largest city in Bangladesh. Home to the Port of Chittagong, it is the busiest port in Bangladesh and the Bay of Bengal. The Karnaphuli River is the largest and most important river in Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. It is a 667-metre (2,188 ft) wide river in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh. Originating from the Saithah village of Mamit district in Mizoram, India, it flows 270 kilometres (170 mi) southwest through Chattogram Hill Tracts and Chattogram into the Bay of Bengal. It is the fastest flowing river in Bangladesh, after the Padma. It is said to "represent the drainage system of the whole south-western part of Mizoram." Principal tributaries include the Kawrpui River or Thega River, Tuichawng River and Phairuang River. A large hydroelectric power plant was built on the Karnaphuli in the Kaptai region in the 1960s. The mouth of the river hosts the Port of Chattogram, the largest and busiest seaport of Bangladesh.

The University of Chittagong is a public research university located in Hathazari, Chattogram, Bangladesh. It was established on 18 August 1966. It is one of the oldest universities in Bangladesh. It is one of the four autonomous by the act universities of Bangladesh.

Shah Amanat International Airport, Chattogram is an international airport serving Bangladesh's southeastern port city of Chittagong. Operated and maintained by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, it is the second-largest international airport in Bangladesh after Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is used by the Bangladesh Air Force as a part of 'BAF Zahurul Haq Base'. It was formerly known as MA Hannan International Airport, named after Awami League politician M. A. Hannan, but was renamed on 2 April 2005 by the Government of Bangladesh, after an 18th-century Islamic saint, Shah Amanat. It is capable of annually handling 1.5 million passengers and 6,000 tonnes of cargo. It also serves as a base for the Arirang Flying School.

Bangladesh Railway Class 2600 is one of the most frequently used meter-gauge diesel electric locomotive classes of Bangladesh Railway. It is considered one of the strongest and most reliable locomotive classes among the fleet of Bangladesh Railway. These locomotives have been in service since 1988. Currently, Bangladesh Railway has a total of 16 locomotives of this class. These 16 locomotives are being used in both passenger services and freight services. All of them are in good condition.

Bangladesh Railway Class 2000 is the earliest meter-gauge diesel electric locomotive class of Bangladesh Railway. These locomotives have been in service since 1953 which make them the oldest running locomotives in the history of Bangladesh Railway. A total of 40 locomotives of this class were imported. After providing service for a long periods of time most of these locomotives are no longer in service. Only the serial number 2025 loco is active now.

Maitri Setu is a 1.9-kilometre (1.2 mi) bridge on Feni River which links Sabroom in Tripura, India and Ramgarh in Chittagong, Bangladesh leading to Chittagong port, thus providing a shorter and more economical alternate land route between India's eastern and western states compared to the longer route through Assam. On 9 March 2021, it was officially opened to public by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Chittagong Metro Rail</span> Approved mass rapid transit system in Chittagong, Bangladesh

The Chittagong Metro Rail, officially the Chattogram Metro Rail, is an approved mass rapid transit system intended to serve Chittagong and its adjoining areas. Once completed, the system is expected to ease the evergrowing traffic in the port city. The feasibility study for Chittagong Metro Rail had begun in January 2023 and will last till June 2025. The Chittagong Metro Rail is the country's second rapid transit project, after Dhaka Metro.
