North Bengal or Uttar Banga is a term used for the north-western part of Bangladesh and northern part of West Bengal. The Bangladesh part denotes the Rajshahi Division and Rangpur Division. Generally, it is the area lying west of Jamuna River and north of Padma River and includes the Barind Tract. The West Bengal part denotes Jalpaiguri Division and the Malda division together. The Bihar parts include the Kishanganj district. It also includes parts of Darjeeling Hills. Traditionally, the Ganga River divides Bengal into South Bengal and North Bengal, divided again into Terai and Dooars regions.

Adamdighi Upazila is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Adamdighi Thana was established in 1821 and was converted into an upazila in 1983. It is named after its administrative center, the town of Adamdighi. Local legend has it that its name came from a Muslim saint, Baba Adam, who visited and dug a dighi (tank) for water storage.

The Santahar–Kaunia line is a dual-gauge railway line connecting Santahar and Kaunia in Bangladesh, under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Railway. From 1878 to 2010 it was a single line of metre gauge 1,000 mm. Between 2010 and 2013, Bangladesh Railway converted the track to also include a 1,676 mm line, with help of Indian Railways.

Rajshahi Railway Station is a railway station at Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The railway station is the main station of the city, and links to Dhaka via the Iswardi–Sirajganj line. Headquarter of Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway is also located within the station complex.
Paksey is a town situated on the banks of the Padma River in Ishwardi Upazila–the westernmost Upazila of Pabna District in Rajshahi Division, Bangladesh. Paksey is home to the Hardinge Bridge–a steel railway bridge named after Lord Hardinge who was the Viceroy of British India from 1910 to 1916. Paksey also serves as the western zone headquarters for the Bangladesh Railway. The road bridge, Lalon Shah Bridge, crosses the Padma at Paksey.

Simanta Express is an intercity train from Chilahati to Khulna. The train is conducted by Bangladesh Railway. The train serves from South-Western Bengal to North Bengal. Apart from the Simanta Express, the Rupsha Express also runs on this route.
Dhaka–Jessore line is a 172 km long under construction broad gauge railway. It is being constructed under the Ministry of Railways, Government of Bangladesh. The line will connect the capital of Bangladesh to Jessore via Dhaka District, Narayanganj District, Munshiganj District, Shariatpur District, Madaripur District, Faridpur District, Gopalganj District, Bangladesh, and Narail District. It is a project related to Padma Bridge.
West Zone is a railway zone operated by Bangladesh Railway. 2,800 km of railway lines in Bangladesh are operated through four divisions in two Zones, West Zone being one of the two Zone. This Zone consists of Rangpur Division, Rajshahi Division, Padma Division, Khulna Division and Tangail District of Dhaka Division of Bangladesh. The head office of West Zone is located in Rajshahi.
