Parabat Express (Train no. 709/710) is an intercity train which runs between Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) and Sylhet. Parabat Express has been considered one of the prestigious and luxurious trains since the inception of intercity train in Bangladesh in 1986. The train connects two important cities of Bangladesh.
Parabat Express made its 1st inaugural run on 19 March 1986 with allocated train no. 709 (up)/710 (down). It was introduced as inter-city train which offers luxurious and fast service. The train starts from Dhaka Railway Station since its inauguration. Parabat express gets the priority on Bangladesh Railway network. It has fewer stops than other Dhaka-Sylhet express trains and halts only at prominent stations.
The train runs between Dhaka and Sylhet district while touching other districts like Gazipur,Narsingdi,Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria, Habiganj and Maulavibazar. It departs Kamalapur railway station at 06:20 AM (Bangladesh Standard Time) and arrives Sylhet at 01:00 PM. In return trip, it departs Sylhet at 03:45 PM and arrives Dhaka at 10:40 PM. Tuesday is the weekly holiday of this train.
The train currently runs with 16 PT Inka (Industri Kereta Api) made air-brake coaches. This coaches were introduced to the service on 2 September 2016. [1] The train has eight chair car, two ac chair car, two non ac chair car, two guard brake with attached dining, one non ac cabin and one generator car. Prior to introducing Inka coaches, the train ran with old vacuum brake coaches. However, the train used to run with Iranian air-brake coaches in between 1998 and 2011. Later, due to maintenance problem, Iranian airbrake coaches were replaced with vacuum coaches in 2011. [2]
Parabat Express usually is hauled by a Class 2900 locomotive of Bangladesh Railway. However, sometimes due to a rolling stock shortage it is hauled by a Class 2600. The train needs an air-braked locomotive which is mandatory.
People usually travel Parabat Express for its punctual and fast service. The train has more AC carriages than any other Dhaka-Sylhet express trains. This attracts passengers who prefer luxurious travel experience. Furthermore, travelling by express allows its passenger to view the scenery of Sylhet division. Passengers can see trackside hills, tea gardens and rural lifestyle while travelling by Parabat Express. [3]
Locomotive no. 2933 was one of the newest locomotives of Class 2900 which met fatal accident in Noyapara, Madhabpur upazila, Habiganj district on 7 October 2016. The locomotive caught fire soon after it derailed with Parabat Express near Noapara Railstation. The driver cab and electrical cabinet of the locomotive were destroyed in the fire, and the locomotive had to undergo heavy repairs. [4]
Brahmanbaria is a district in eastern Bangladesh located in the Chittagong Division. Geographically, it is mostly farmland and is topographically part of the Gangetic Plain. The Bengali name Maitree Express means Friendship Express when translated to English, denoting the significance of the train service to the friendly foreign relations between India and Bangladesh. Previously train services between the two countries existed before the partition of India by the British and the Maitree Express re-established this connection between Dhaka and Kolkata in 2008 after being closed for 43 years. In 2017 a second train service, the Bandhan Express, was inaugurated connecting Kolkata with the Bangladeshi city of Khulna, recreating the previous Barisal Express train route.
The 12127/12128 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus - Pune Junction Intercity Superfast Express is an Express train belonging to Indian Railways that runs between Mumbai CSMT and Pune Junction in India. This reliable locomotive series has been in service since 1999. Bangladesh Railway has a total 39 locomotives of this class. These 39 locomotives are being used in both passenger and freight services.
Bangladesh Railway Class 2600 is one of the most frequently used meter-gauge diesel electric locomotive classes of Bangladesh Railway. It is considered one of the strongest and most reliable locomotive classes among the fleet of Bangladesh Railway. These locomotives have been in service since 1988. Currently, Bangladesh Railway has a total of 16 locomotives of this class. These 16 locomotives are being used in both passenger services and freight services. All of them are in good condition.
Bangladesh Railway Class 2700 diesel electric locomotive is currently in service on the meter gauge of Bangladesh Railway. This dual cab locomotive series has been in service since 1994. Bangladesh Railway has a total 21 locomotives that are used in passenger services.

The Mondobhag train collision occurred on 12 November 2019 at Mondobhag railway station, Kasba, Bangladesh. Two trains were involved. At least sixteen people were killed and 58 were injured.

The Mitali Express (13131/13132) train is an international express rail service which connects the Indian city of Siliguri with the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka every week. Together with the Maitree Express train and the Bandhan Express train, the Mitali Express train is the third modern-day fully air conditioned passenger train link between the Indian state of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Both the prime ministers of the two neighbouring countries officially inaugurated the non-stop passenger train with ten compartments on the new 513 km route from Dhaka on 26 March 2021, the day Bangladesh celebrated the golden jubilee of its independence. The prime minister of India was in Dhaka to mark the auspicious occasion of fifty years of independence of Bangladesh. After 56 years of stoppage, this train route recreates the previous Siliguri route between India and Bangladesh. A valid visa and passport is required beforehand to purchase a ticket for the Mitali Express train. Tickets are available at Dhaka Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka, Bangladesh and at New Jalpaiguri railway station in Siliguri, India.
