Suborno Express (Train no. 701/702) is an intercity train of Bangladesh Railway which runs between Dhaka (the capital of Bangladesh) and Chittagong. Suborno Express has been considered one of the prestigious trains since it is considered the first luxurious non-stop train in the country. [1] The train connects the capital Dhaka with Port City Chittagong of Bangladesh.

History

Suborno Express made its 1st inaugural run on 14 April 1998 with allocated train no. 701 (up)/702 (down). It was introduced as a nonstop inter-city train that offers luxurious and fast service. The train starts from Dhaka Railway Station since its inauguration. Suborno Express gets the top priority on Bangladesh Railway network. It only gives stoppage at Dhaka Airport Station. Thus, the train is popular among the aristocratic people.

Schedule

The train departs Chittagong railway station at 7:00 am (Bangladesh Standard Time) and arrives in Dhaka at 12:20pm[701]  On the return trip, it departs Dhaka at 4:30 pm and arrives in Chittagong at 9:50pm[702] . This train runs six days a week, this train has 1 holiday[Monday]. [2] [3] [4]

Carriages

The train currently runs with Korean coaches made by Sung Sing Rolling Stock Technology (SSRST). However, sometimes the train pulls up to 22 coaches if there is compelling demand. The train has 8 AC chair cars, 7 non-AC chair cars, two dining cars with attached guard brakes, and one generator car. The train was replaced with Korean coaches made by Sung Sing Rolling Stock Technology in 6th June 2023. Prior to introducing Chinese coaches, the train ran with air-braked Iranian coaches brake coaches. Later, due to maintenance problems, Iranian airbrake coaches were replaced with newly imported Chinese coaches in 2007.

Suborno Express is hauled by a Class 3000 series Locomotive of Bangladesh Railway.

Passenger interest

People usually travel Suborno Express for non stop service. The train has more AC carriages than any other Dhaka-Chittagong express trains. Suborno Express is popular among corporate figures as well.[ citation needed ]

The Maitree Express (13109/13110) train, often pronounced Moitree Express, is the first modern day, fully air conditioned, international, express train service connecting Dhaka in Bangladesh to Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. The Bengali name Maitree Express means Friendship Express when translated to English, denoting the significance of the train service to the friendly foreign relations between India and Bangladesh. Previously train services between the two countries existed before the partition of India by the British and the Maitree Express re-established this connection between Dhaka and Kolkata in 2008 after being closed for 43 years. In 2017 a second train service, the Bandhan Express, was inaugurated connecting Kolkata with the Bangladeshi city of Khulna, recreating the previous Barisal Express train route.

The Mitali Express (13131/13132) train is an international express rail service which connects the Indian city of Siliguri with the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka every week. Together with the Maitree Express train and the Bandhan Express train, the Mitali Express train is the third modern-day fully air conditioned passenger train link between the Indian state of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Both the prime ministers of the two neighbouring countries officially inaugurated the non-stop passenger train with ten compartments on the new 513 km route from Dhaka on 26 March 2021, the day Bangladesh celebrated the golden jubilee of its independence. The prime minister of India was in Dhaka to mark the auspicious occasion of fifty years of independence of Bangladesh. After 56 years of stoppage, this train route recreates the previous Siliguri route between India and Bangladesh. A valid visa and passport is required beforehand to purchase a ticket for the Mitali Express train. Tickets are available at [[Dhaka Kamalapur railway station] in Dhaka, Bangladesh and at New Jalpaiguri railway station in Siliguri, India.
