Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, commonly known as DMTCL, is a government-owned company responsible for operating Dhaka Metro Rail, a mass rapid transit system in Dhaka and adjoining areas. The company was established on 3 June 2013 under the Companies Act 1994, a law that governs companies in Bangladesh. [1] Out of 5 metro lines planned by the DMTCL, the MRT Line-6 was inaugurated on 28 December 2022 by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. [2]

To reduce the traffic congestion by providing a fast, safe, reliable, air-conditioned, time-saving, electricity-driven, environment-friendly and remote-controlled public transport system for Dhaka and its adjoining areas. [3]
Bangladesh Government has undertaken the following Time-bound Action Plan 2030 to establish a state-of-the-art robust Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Network consisting of 6 (Six) Metro Rail routes which will have 104 stations along the total length of 128.741 kilometers line under Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). The Dhaka Metro Rail, or simply the Dhaka Metro, is a mass rapid transit system serving Dhaka, the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. It is owned and operated by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). Together with the under construction Dhaka BRT, proposed Dhaka Subway and Dhaka suburban circular rail, it is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the city. The metro rail network has five planned lines which are the MRT Line 6, the only operational line, MRT Line 1 and MRT line 5, which are under construction, and MRT Line 2 and MRT Line 4, which are in the planning stages. It is part of the Strategic Transport Plan outlined by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA).
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) or Dhaka Uttar City Corporation was created as an autonomous body that governs 54 northern wards of Dhaka to better manage local services, but has since added new areas. It is one of two municipal corporations in Dhaka, the other being Dhaka South City Corporation. Annisul Huq was the first mayor of the Dhaka North City Corporation, after being elected in April 2015. Md. Atiqul Islam is the current mayor of DNCC since 7 March 2019. The area was 82.69 km2 until 2017 when it underwent expansion to 197 km2. Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) published Population and Housing Census 2022 with 5,979,537 people residing in it, for average density of 30,353 people per km2.
Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) is the government agency responsible for coordinating transport-related projects in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh and most of Dhaka division. The agency is responsible for moderating and mediating negotiations between transport labor unions and transport owners. Under the Revised Strategic Transport Plan, any changes to transport infrastructure will need approval from the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority. It is also responsible for overseeing mass transport projects in Dhaka.

Uttara North is an elevated metro station of the Dhaka Metro Rail's MRT Line 6. This station is located in Uttara, a neighbourhood of Dhaka. It was opened on 29 December 2022.

The MRT Line 6 is a line on the Dhaka Metro Rail. It is Bangladesh's first rapid transit line and has been in service since 2022. It is an entirely elevated line and currently has 16 stations in service between Uttara North and Motijheel.
The Rapid Pass is a smart card automated fare collection system based on near-field communication (NFC) technology used on participating public transit systems in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Rapid Pass card readers were implemented on a trial basis in 2017. Full implementation began in January 2018 and it was rolled out across rapid transit stations, railway stations, bus stops and terminals, and transit vehicles on many different transit systems.
The MRT Line 1 is Dhaka Metro Rail's rapid transit line under construction. It will be the second of the Dhaka Metro Rail system and will be operated by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). Its construction started in February 2023. It is scheduled to open in December 2026.
Dhaka University, also sometimes unofficially and colloquially referred as TSC station, is an elevated metro station on MRT Line 6 of the Dhaka Metro Rail. This station is in the University of Dhaka campus, next to the Teacher-Student Centre and close to the Curzon Hall, located in Shahbagh Thana. The station commenced service on 13 December 2023.
Motijheel is an elevated metro station of the Dhaka Metro Rail's MRT Line 6. This station is located in the area of Dilkusha towards Motijheel. It commenced operations on 5 November 2023.
Kamalapur is an elevated metro station of the Dhaka Metro's MRT Line 6, currently under construction. This station is located in Kamalapur, adjacent to Kamalapur railway station. It is scheduled to be opened in 2026 and is integrated as MRT Line 6's third phase.
The Southern Route is one of the branches of the approved MRT Line 5 line of Dhaka Metro Rail; the other one being the Northern Route. This route is currently in its planning stages. The construction of the Southern Route could begin in 2024 and is scheduled to commence operation by 2030.
The Northern Route is one of the branches of the approved MRT Line 5 of Dhaka Metro Rail; the other one being the Southern Route. The construction of the Northern Route started in 4 November 2023 and is scheduled to commence operation by 2028.
The MRT Line 2 is Dhaka's proposed rapid transit line. It will be the fifth of the Dhaka Metro Rail system and will be operated by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). It is scheduled to open in 2030.
