Chawnpui Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Aizawl, Mizoram, [1] that competes in the Mizoram Premier League. [2] Chawnpui FC won the Mizoram Premier League, the first division of Mizoram football in 2022, by beating FC Venghnuai. [3]

History

Chawnpui FC was established in 1995. Chawnpui FC was promoted to Mizoram Premier League in Season 7 [2018-2019] after they were champion in Aizawl District Football Association First Division league competition. [4] They are the current champions of Mizoram Premier League, having lifted the cup in MPL season 9. [5]

Stadium

Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, located in Salem Veng, Aizawl, Mizoram, is used as the home ground of Chawnpui Veng FC for the home matches of Mizoram Premier League.

The season began on 1 August 2016 and will conclude in May 2017. The club ended the I-League campaign as the champions after they were reinstated into the league after they were relegated the previous season. The club will also participate in the Federation Cup while they also made it to the semi-finals of the Mizoram Premier League and the Durand Cup.

Aizawl Football Club held its thirty-fourth season from 1 June 2017 to 31 May 2018, entering the 2017–18 I-League season as the defending champions finishing fifth. They reached the final of the Mizoram Premier League, losing to Chhinga Veng FC. The club started in the 2018 AFC Champions League but lost to Zob Ahan in the playoff round. This meant that they qualified for the 2018 AFC Cup where they finished bottom of the group. In the Super Cup, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by East Bengal.
