The Chhattisgarhiya Olympics (CG Olympics) [1] are an annual sports event held in Chhattisgarh, India to celebrate traditional Indian games such as kabaddi and kho-kho, [2] as well as to promote sports participation among rural people and women. [3] [4] The event takes place over three months. [5] The first edition was held in 2022, with around 2.6 million (mostly rural) Chattisgarhis participating, [6] and about 1,900 of them reaching the state-level finals. [7] Over 3 million Chattisgarhis likely participated in the 2023 edition. [8]

Contents

Format

There are six ascending levels of competition: village, zonal, development block/urban cluster, [4] district, divisional and state. [9] There are also four age categories: below 18 years old, 18 to 40 years old, 40 to 60 years old, and above 60 years old. [10] Men and women play in separate categories. [11]

In the 2023 edition, competition participants could win anywhere from 500 (US$6.30) to 5,000 (US$63) depending on how well they finished and at what level of competition. [7] [12]

On 24 January 2012, the airport was renamed after Swami Vivekananda, the iconic Hindu monk and philosopher who spent three years of his youth in Raipur between 1877 and 1879.

He was president of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress from 2014 to 2019. He represents the Patan constituency in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly since 2013 and from 2003 to 2008. He had been cabinet minister of Transportation in undivided Madhya Pradesh in Digvijaya Singh government from 1999 to 2003. He was first Minister for Revenue, Public Health Engineering and Relief Work of Chhattisgarh.

Inter State Bus Terminal, Raipur officially Sri Balaji Swami Trust Sri Dudhadhari Math Inter State Bus Terminal also known as ISBT Bhatagaon is a newly constructed hi-tech bus stand situated in 25 acres at the Bhatagaon area of Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Being the first ISBT in Chhattisgarh the bus terminal is the largest bus station in whole Central and Eastern India with a capability of 300 buses in a day with a number of facilities. Its an Interstate Bus terminal which caters bus services to passengers come from adjoining States like: Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, etc. The main purpose for the stand is to replace the Minimata Agam Dass Guru Bus stand, Pandri, as the stand was creating traffic problems and wasn't safe so this stand has been constructed at the outskirts of Raipur City. This terminal was inaugurated by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on 20 August 2021. Management of the Terminal started from 15 November 2021 after 2 months of inauguration on the occasion of Devotthan Ekadashi and after 28 years old Pandri Bus Stand is now closed.

India has several traditional games and sports, some of which have been played for thousands of years. Many of these games do not require much equipment or playing space. Some traditional Indian games are only played in certain regions of India, or may be known by different names and played under different rules and regulations in different regions of the country. Many sports are played in South Asia, with cricket being the most popular of them; 90% of the sport's worldwide fans live in South Asia. Football is followed passionately in some parts of South Asia, such as Kerala and Bengal. Field hockey was popular for several decades, with some of South Asia's greatest sporting accomplishments having taken place in this sport. Some native South Asian games are played professionally in the region, such as kabaddi and kho-kho, and also feature in regional competitions such as the South Asian Games and Asian Games.
