Christopher "Chris" Cantonjos, is a retired Filipino professional basketball player.

Playing career

A former UST Growling Tiger, 4 peat champion and former 1995 UAAP MVP, [1] [2] Cantonjos played for Stag Pale Pilseners in the PBL, while in the PBA teams like Tanduay Rhum Masters, [3] Purefoods, [4] [5] and Talk 'N Text Phone Pals. [6]

While in his final year in 1996, he was assigned as team captain. [7] Due to his accomplishment in UST, his jersey no. 15 was retired. [8]

Coaching career

He later served for his alma mater as an assistant to Pido Jarencio's coaching staff from 2011 until 2013. Cantonjos later served as head coach of the UST's high school team from 2016 [9] until 2018. [10]

The UST Growling Tigers basketball is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Santo Tomas. The school has won 19 basketball titles including one in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). They are one of the winningest teams in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) with 18 championships, the last coming in 2006 during Pido Jarencio's rookie year of coaching. This is due to a Court of Appeals ruling secured by the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines in 2002 barring non-resident foreigners from the head coach's role in the PBA. The employment of consultants by teams of the PBA has been viewed as a "loophole" to this ruling.
