Rudolf "Udoy" Belmonte (born December 23, 1969) is a Filipino former basketball player, and a commercial pilot.

Playing career

UST

Belmonte played for UST Growling Tigers under Aric del Rosario, and notably played with del Rosario's son Lester, Patrick Fran, Rey Evangelista, Dennis Espino, and Siot Tanquingcen. [1]

When he was the team captain of the 1992 team, [2] the team changed from Glowing Goldies to Golden Tigers, and for the second time, the Golden Tigers met FEU in a game that was interrupted by a power outage. Both teams lost La Salle and Adamson respectively, and in the last game of the Tigers power went-out, and the UAAP board decided to reschedule the last three minutes of the game on a later date. UST ended up losing, 76–87 and settled for fourth place with 10 wins against 4 losses. Belmonte and Rey Evangelista were chosen to the Mythical first team, while Espino made it to the second team. The team later won the 1993 championship by sweeping all of their opponents, and got a mythical second team. [9] [10]

While at UST, he served as team captain of the Philippine national team for 1993 ABC Championship. And in PBL for Nikon Home Appliances in 1993, and in 1994 for Casino Rubbing Alcohol.

Professional and PBL

Belmonte was drafted by Swift Mighty Meaty in 1994, but was only signed by San Miguel Beermen and played for two seasons. He later returned to professional scene for Pampanga Dragons in Metropolitan Basketball Association in 1998, when they won championship under Del Rosario's tutelage. [11]

Outside basketball

Belmonte now currently working as a commercial pilot for Philippine Airlines. [10]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">La Salle–UST rivalry</span> Rivalry between two teams in the Philippines

The rivalry between the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers is contested at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Although the men's basketball rivalry had died down after the 1990s, it returned in 2013 as both schools again met in the UAAP basketball championship series. The rivalry had also been apparent in women's volleyball where the two teams are frequent finalists in the UAAP Volleyball Championship and the Shakey's V-League.

The UST Growling Tigers basketball is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Santo Tomas. The school has won 19 basketball titles including one in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). They are one of the winningest teams in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) with 18 championships, the last coming in 2006 during Pido Jarencio's rookie year of coaching. Jarencio returned as the team's head coach after ten years since resigning in 2013. He formally replaced Bal David on February 3, 2023.

Karim Abdul is a collegiate basketball player from Cameroon. He last played for the UST Growling Tigers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). He is also a football player for Dolphins United F.C. where he plays as goalkeeper.

FEU Tamaraws are the collegiate basketball varsity team of the Far Eastern University (FEU). FEU currently holds the record of winning the most number of championships in the men's basketball division of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. FEU also appeared in the Philippine Collegiate Championship finals four times, and was able to win back to back championships in 2004 and 2005. The team originally played in the NCAA from 1929 to 1936 and was one of its founding members.

The 2015 UST Growling Tigers men's basketball team represented University of Santo Tomas in the 78th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. The men's basketball tournament for the school year 2015-16 began on September 5, 2015 and the host school for the season was the University of the Philippines.

The UST Golden Tigresses are the women’s collegiate varsity volleyball team of the UST Growling Tigers, representing the University of Santo Tomas in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Their head coach as of April 17, 2015 is former Golden Spiker Kungfu Reyes.
