Biography

Like many inline skaters Chris Haffey began rollerskating as a child and by the age of 11 switched to single row inline skates. Upon moving to Atlanta he was introduced to the Aggressive skating discipline, through ice hockey before returning to California.

While in California, Chris Haffey was submerged in the culture of California's aggressive skating scene by former professional turned producer, Brian Bell, and through him met skating industry leader Kato Mateu. The two became good friends as Kato sponsored many of Haffey's moves through his company Remz.

Haffey was casually skating street until 2004 when he won the ASA finals and began competing regularly on the amateur and professional circuits. This was a turning point for him and his importance in the sport grew as he consistently placed in podium positions thereafter, escalating him to the ranks of pioneers in the sport before him such as Arlo Eisenberg, Aaron Feinberg, or Brian Shima.

Long Shunned by the action sports community at large [1] Haffey's talent and professionalism has popularised street style rollerblading back to the action sports community by being included in press releases by ESPN as member of "Team USA". [2] He is credited by many[ who? ] as the individual who has spawned the renaissance in aggressive skating with the consistency of his performances. This is also the reason why he is sought after by many sponsors and events outside the industry. One example of this is his participation in the Nitro Circus Live Tour, where was cited as the 'best rollerblader in the world' for their Las Vegas Show [3]

His most recent[ when? ] achievement was winning first place at the X-Games in the Aggressive Inline Street category. [4] On December 9, 2011, Haffey broke the world record for longest jump ever done on inline skates. Aided by a ramp and a cable-system, Haffey jumped 30 meters in the air and landed successfully on skates. The event took place at an extreme sports event called AIR F.I.S.E in Marseille. [5]

Born in Madrid, Spain and having lived most of his life in Sydney, Australia, Cesar represented Australia in soccer at a youth level, traveling to the US and England before returning to his city of birth Madrid and training with the Spanish football club Rayo Vallecano for several months, which at the time were in the 4th division of the Spanish league. He returned to Sydney and started skating at Bondi Beach, where he practiced his skills on the ramp and began an international skating career. In 2003, Cesar headlined a video game called Rolling, being included with some of the most well-known skaters in the world at the time. Sometimes referred to as the "King of Vert", in 1998 he was the first skater in history to land a 1080°, and later that year he achieved a reverse 1260°. Throughout his career, Cesar managed to avoid major injuries until the end of 2000, when performing at the Melbourne Planet X Games, he fell and broke his left arm and wrist. That year, he took a short hiatus focusing on healing his injuries. Once his confidence returned, Cesar's usual tricks of spins, flips, and airs were performed again. For many years, he was known for his backflips, always being described as a "crowd pleaser". Cesar, ever the showman, never left a ramp without giving his all, whether it be the X Games or a small show in Peru, where the ramp may have been less than appropriate. He wanted to leave the kids and fans with something special and signed autographs. Cesar's position as a role model made him wear a helmet, because when he started his first tour in the US, he never liked wearing a helmet but was told "no helmet no skate". As a skater with a respectable list of achievements, he had a successful time on tour and was grateful to anyone who supported him.
