Christ with the Eucharist and Saints Cosmas and Damian is an oil on canvas painting by Moretto da Brescia, executed c. 1540, still in the church dedicated to the two saints in Marmentino and now on its high altar. [1]

A late work, it supports the idea of transubstantiation, then as now disputed by the Protestant church [2] It was probably commissioned by Donato Savallo, archpriest of the Basilica of San Pietro de Dom from 1524 onwards and linked to the parish benefices in Marmentino (held by him from 1522 to 1551) and Castenedolo, site of Moretto's similar Christ with the Eucharist and Saints Bartholomew and Roch [3] [4] Savallo wrote to Moretto in 1530 about the organist Graziadio Antegnati, though this is too long before the probable date of the painting to firmly ascribe the commission.

Alessandro Bonvicino, more commonly known as Moretto, or in Italian Il Moretto da Brescia, was an Italian Renaissance painter from Brescia, where he also mostly worked. His dated works span the period from 1524 to 1554, but he was already described as a master in 1516. He was mainly a painter of altarpieces that tend towards sedateness, mostly for churches in and around Brescia, but also in Bergamo, Milan, Verona, and Asola; many remain in the churches they were painted for. Most are on canvas, but a number even of large ones are on wood panel. Only a handful of drawings survive.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Santa Maria delle Grazie, Brescia</span>

The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Brescia is located on at the west end of Via Elia Capriolo, where it intersects with the Via delle Grazie. Built in the 16th century and remodeled in the 17th century, it still retains much of its artwork by major regional artists, including one of its three canvases by Moretto. The other two are now held at the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo. The interior is richly decorated in Baroque fashion. Adjacent to the church is the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a neo-gothic work.

The Deaf-Mute Filippo Viotti's Vision of the Virgin Mary is an oil on canvas painting by Moretto da Brescia, executed c. 1534, displayed in the Santuario della Madonna at Paitone in the Province of Brescia, Italy. It is first recorded in 1648 by Carlo Ridolfi, who wrote that "in the church atop Monte Paitone one can still admire a miraculous image of the Virgin which Moretto made at the request of that town for such a miracle".

Lament over the Dead Christ is a 1526–1530 oil on canvas painting by Moretto da Brescia, now in the National Gallery of Art in Washington. Painted late in the painter's youth, it shows strong similarities to the central panel of Paolo Caylina the Younger's Deposition Altarpiece from around the same time, though there are also notable differences in their use of color, such as the brighter and clearer colors used by Moretto. Some of the elements reused by Moretto in Lament recurred later in his career, so the work gives a clear idea of Moretto's training and education as an artist.
