Aircraft hijacking is the unlawful seizure of an aircraft by an individual or a group. Dating from the earliest of hijackings,most cases involve the pilot being forced to fly according to the hijacker's demands. There have also been incidents where the hijackers have overpowered the flight crew,made unauthorized entry into cockpit and flown them into buildings –most notably in the September 11 attacks –and in several cases,planes have been hijacked by the official pilot or co-pilot;e.g.,Germanwings Flight 9525.

Trans World Airlines Flight 847 was a flight from Cairo to San Diego with en route stops in Athens,Rome,Boston,and Los Angeles. On the morning of June 14,1985,Flight 847 was hijacked shortly after take off from Athens. The hijackers demanded the release of 700 Shia Muslims from Israeli custody and took the plane repeatedly to Beirut and Algiers. Later Western analysis considered them members of the Hezbollah group,an allegation Hezbollah rejects.

The Delta Force was "inspired" by the hijacking of TWA Flight 847.

A Lebanese citizen and alleged member of Hezbollah,he was convicted in a West German court of law of air piracy,murder,and possession of explosives for his part in the 14 June 1985 hijacking of TWA Flight 847.
TWA Flight 840 was a Trans World Airlines flight from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome,Italy to Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv,Israel,that was hijacked on 29 August 1969. There were no fatalities although at least two passengers were lightly wounded and the aircraft was significantly damaged. Two hostages were held for two months.

Derickson herself acted as a consultant for the film. The film was directed by Paul Wendkos and showcases the first 48 hours of the hijacking until Derickson's liberation.

He previously represented Idaho's 18th Legislative District in the Idaho House of Representatives from 2006 to 2010 as a conservative Democrat,until his resignation from the Idaho Legislature in 2013. He was the youngest member of the Idaho Senate and was ranked the 8th most conservative member of the Idaho Senate by the Idaho Freedom Foundation. Durst switched parties in 2016 and registered as a Republican as of November 2020. Durst announced in January 2021 that he would be a Republican candidate for Idaho State Superintendent of Public Instruction. He ultimately placed a second in the primary,earning about 90,000 votes beating out incumbent Sherri Ybarra. The race was marred by accusations of crossover voting by Democrats who preferred Durst's more liberal opponent,Debbie Critchfield.
Kuwait Airways Flight 422 was a Boeing 747 jumbo jet hijacked en route from Bangkok,Thailand,to Kuwait on 5 April 1988,leading to a hostage crisis that lasted 16 days and encompassed three continents. The hijacking was carried out by several Lebanese guerillas who demanded the release of 17 Shi'ite Muslim prisoners being held by Kuwait for their role in the 1983 Kuwait bombings. During the incident the flight,initially forced to land in Iran,traveled 3,200 mi (5,100 km) from Mashhad in northeastern Iran to Larnaca,Cyprus,and finally to Algiers.
TWA Flight 541 was a domestic passenger flight hijacked in the United States by Robin Oswald in an attempt to free Garrett Brock Trapnell,who was a prisoner at the United States Penitentiary,Marion. The hijacking was successfully resolved when a Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) negotiating team had her release the passengers and then surrender.
