A leadership election for Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL) was held on 12 November 2005. The incumbent leader Miroslav Kalousek received almost 80% of votes and was reelected. Kalousek didn't have a rival. [1] [2]

The Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (Czech: Křesťanská a demokratická unie – Československá strana lidová, KDU–ČSL, often shortened to lidovci is a Christian-democratic political party in the Czech Republic. The party took part in almost every Czech Government since 1990. In the June 2006 election, the party won 7.2% of the vote and 13 out of 200 seats; but in the 2010 election, this dropped to 4.4% and they lost all their seats. The party regained its parliamentary standing in the 2013 legislative election, winning 14 seats in the new parliament, thereby becoming the first party ever to return to the Chamber of Deputies after dropping out.

Jiří Čunek is a Czech politician who was the Leader of the Christian and Democratic Union - Czechoslovak People's Party from December 2006 to May 2009. Čunek was also Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Regional Development in Mirek Topolánek's Second Cabinet until January 23, 2009. Since 2006, Čuněk has been Senator from Vsetín and since November 2, 2016 he has been the Governor of Zlín Region.

2012 Czech regional elections

Elections to regional councils in the Czech Republic were held in 13 regions on 12–13 October 2012. The Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) won in nine regions, though with a considerable loss of vote share. The Communist Party won in two regions and increased its vote share, finishing second overall. The election results were widely seen as a defeat for the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), which finished third overall and won only in the Plzeň Region. The regional grouping Mayors for Liberec Region won unexpectedly in Liberec Region.

The 2017 Czech legislative election was held in the Czech Republic on 20 and 21 October 2017. All 200 members of the Chamber of Deputies were elected and the leader of the resultant government – Andrej Babiš of ANO 2011, became the Prime Minister.

2016 Czech Senate election elections

Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 7 and 8 October 2016, with a second round on 14 and 15 of October. The first round was held alongside regional elections and several municipal referendums, notably in a referendum in Brno on the location of the town's train station.

A leadership election for Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL) was held on 30 May 2009. Cyril Svoboda was elected leader of the party. Incumbent leader Jiří Čunek was eliminated in the first round. Other candidates were Jan Březina and Michael Šojdrová. Svoboda's victory was welcomed by Social democratic leader Jiří Paroubek because Svoboda represents left wing in the party.

A Czech government crisis began in May 2017, as a result of suspicions that the Minister of Finance, Andrej Babiš, also the leader of ANO 2011, a partner in the ruling coalition, had evaded taxes related to his business activities.

Populars and Mayors

The Populars and Mayors was an alliance of Czech political parties, consisting of the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL) and Mayors and Independents. Talks about a possible alliance of the two parties started in 2016, with the intention of participating in the 2017 legislative election, and becoming the "third power" of Czech politics. The alliance was dissolved in July 2017, before the election took place.

A leadership election for Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL) was held on 27 May 2017. Pavel Bělobrádek was reelected leader of KDU-ČSL. He received 227 votes of 270 delegates. His rival Jiří Čunek received 43 votes. Čunek announced his candidature on the day of the election. His candidature was speculated for months prior the election.

2013 Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak Peoples Party leadership election

A leadership election for Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL) was held on 8 June 2013. Pavel Bělobrádek was reelected as the leader of KDU-ČSL. Zuzana Roithová and Marian Jurečka were nominated for the position but both of them withdrew from election. Bělobrádek ran unopposed and received 244 of 272 votes.

Municipal election in Ostrava was held as part of Czech municipal elections in 2014. It was a victory of ANO 2011. Tomáš Macura then became new Mayor when he formed coalition with ČSSD and KDU-ČSL.

Democratic Bloc was a parliamentary alliance formed in 2017 by four Centre-right parties. Parties agreed to cooperate in parliament. Czech Pirate Party and Czech Social Democratic Party were also offered participation but both parties declined. It was announced on 15 November 2017 on a Press Conference by Petr Fiala. Fiala stated that Democratic Bloc isn't meant to be a long term coalition but its only task is to take over initiative during negotiations of parliament's body and for constituent meeting. Democratic Bloc was dissolved on 21 December 2017.

A leadership election for Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party (KDU-ČSL) will be held on 29 March 2019.

2018 President of the Senate of the Czech Republic election

Election of the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic was held on 14 November 2018. It was held after 2018 Senate election. Civic Democratic Party nominated Jaroslav Kubera, Mayors and Independents nominated Jan Horník and Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party nominated Václav Hampl. Incumbent President Milan Štěch doesn't seek reelection. It was the first time in the history of the Senate that more than 2 candidates run for the position. Senate factions usually came to an agreement about the new President in the past.
