Christmas, a 2007 collection of Christmas songs, is the third studio album by American recording artist Kimberley Locke. The album was only released digitally.
Kimberley Dawn Locke is an American singer-songwriter and model. She has recorded in the dance and pop genres, and has targeted the adult contemporary radio format.
After Locke saw her first holiday single, "Up On the House Top", sit at the top of Billboard magazine's Adult Contemporary chart for 4 weeks in 2005, a full holiday album was planned for release during the 2006 holiday season. With the delay of her second studio album Based on a True Story , the label decided to delay plans on the holiday album as well until the 2007 season. Instead, only "Jingle Bells" was released as a single, which again brought Locke's name to the top of the Billboard AC chart.
Billboard is an American entertainment media brand owned by the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group, a division of Eldridge Industries. It publishes pieces involving news, video, opinion, reviews, events, and style, and is also known for its music charts, including the Hot 100 and Billboard 200, tracking the most popular songs and albums in different genres. It also hosts events, owns a publishing firm, and operates several TV shows.
Based on a True Story is the second album from American Idol finalist, Kimberley Locke. Kimberley chose this title because the songs on the album, 8 of which co-written by Kimberley herself, tell the true story of the emotions she dealt with during and after her relationship with her ex-fiance. She found that when she sat and talked with her collaborators about the issues she was working through, the songs began to write themselves.
"Jingle Bells" is one of the best-known and commonly sung American songs in the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont (1822–1893) and published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the autumn of 1857. It has been claimed that it was originally written to be sung by a Sunday school choir; however, historians dispute this, stating that it was much too "racy" to be sung by a children's church choir in the days it was written.
Along with the release of the album, a third holiday single, "Frosty the Snowman", was sent to radio, and once again brought Locke's name to the top of the AC chart. The album's final single, "We Need a Little Christmas", failed to make the impression the other single had, peaking at number 19.
"Frosty the Snowman" is a popular Christmas song written by Walter "Jack" Rollins and Steve Nelson, and first recorded by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys in 1950 and later recorded by Jimmy Durante, releasing it as a single. It was written after the success of Autry's recording of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" the previous year; Rollins and Nelson shipped the new song to Autry, who recorded "Frosty" in search of another seasonal hit. Like "Rudolph", "Frosty" was subsequently adapted to other media including a popular television special by Rankin/Bass Productions, Frosty the Snowman. The ancillary rights to Frosty are owned by Warner Bros., but due to the prominence of the Rankin/Bass TV special itself, merchandising of the character is generally licensed in tandem with that special's current owners, DreamWorks Classics.
"We Need a Little Christmas" is a popular Christmas song originating from Jerry Herman's Broadway musical Mame, and first performed by Angela Lansbury in that 1966 production.
The album sold 3,000 copies as of December 31, 2008. [1]
