Martin Bladen Hawke,7th Baron Hawke,generally known as Lord Hawke,was an English amateur cricketer active from 1881 to 1911 who played for Yorkshire and England. He was born in Willingham by Stow,near Gainsborough,Lincolnshire,and died in Edinburgh. He appeared in 633 first-class matches,including five Test matches,as a righthanded batsman,scoring 16,749 runs with a highest score of 166 and held 209 catches. He scored 13 centuries and 69 half-centuries.
Robert Peel was an English professional cricketer who played first-class cricket for Yorkshire between 1883 and 1897. Primarily a left-arm spin bowler,Peel was also an effective left-handed batsman who played in the middle order. Between 1884 and 1896,he was regularly selected to represent England,playing 20 Test matches in which he took 101 wickets. Over the course of his career,he scored 12,191 runs and took 1,775 wickets in first-class cricket. A match-winning bowler,particularly when conditions favoured his style,Peel generally opened the attack,an orthodox tactic for a spinner at the time,and was highly regarded by critics.
Samuel Moses James Woods was an Australian sportsman who represented both Australia and England at Test cricket,and appeared thirteen times for England at rugby union,including five times as captain. He also played at county level in England at both soccer and hockey. At cricket—his primary sport—he played over four hundred first-class matches in a twenty-four-year career. The majority of these matches were for his county side,Somerset,whom he captained from 1894 to 1906. A. A. Thomson described him thus:"Sammy ... radiated such elemental force in hard hitting,fast bowling and electrical fielding that he might have been the forerunner of Sir Learie Constantine."
Arnold James Fothergill was an English professional cricketer who played first-class cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club and the MCC in a career which spanned from 1870 until 1892. A left-arm fast-medium pace bowler,he appeared for England in two Test matches in 1889.
Herbert Tremenheere"Herbie" Hewett was an English amateur first-class cricketer who played for Somerset,captaining the county from 1889 to 1893,as well as Oxford University and the Marylebone Cricket Club. A battling left-handed opening batsman,Hewett could post a large score in a short time against even the best bowlers. Capable of hitting the ball powerfully,he combined an excellent eye with an unorthodox style to be regarded at his peak as one of England's finest batsmen.
William Henry Brain was an English first-class cricketer and footballer:a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who played for Gloucestershire,Oxford University and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in the early 1890s;as well as keeping goal for Headington United. He is notable as the first man to perform the "wicket-keeper's hat-trick" and the only man to perform a hat-trick of stumpings.
Brian Fettes Davison is a former cricketer who played 467 first-class matches for Rhodesia,Gloucestershire,Leicestershire and Tasmania,and former member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly.
Gilbert Ashton MC was an English cricketer who played 62 first-class matches between the wars,mostly for Cambridge University and Worcestershire. His obituary in Wisden called him "a fine,aggressive stroke-player" and praised his fielding ability at cover point. His bowling was of the occasional variety,and after he left Cambridge became essentially non-existent.
Thomas Umfrey Wells was a New Zealand-born first-class cricketer and educator who played first-class cricket in England in the early 1950s. All but one of his appearances were for Cambridge University,but he also played one match for Worcestershire in 1950.
Richard Ashley was a first-class cricketer who played two matches for Somerset County Cricket Club in 1932. He also appeared in two first-class matches in India in the late 1930s,playing for Mysore in the Ranji Trophy and for the Europeans (India) in the Bombay Pentangular Tournament. He was a right-handed batsman and a fast-medium bowler,though it is not known whether he bowled with his right or left hand. A 2017 book states that he was born in Weston-super-Mare,Somerset,and died in Bognor Regis,West Sussex;previously it had been thought that he was born at Axbridge and died at Selsey.
Arthur Edward Newton was an English cricketer who played for Somerset in the county's pre-first-class days and then for more than 20 years after the team entered the County Championship in 1891. He also played for Oxford University and for a variety of amateur teams. As a cricketer,he was known as "A. E.",not by his forename.
John Bonamy Challen was a Welsh amateur sportsman who played first-class cricket and association football during the late 19th century. He played football for Corinthian F.C.,and was selected to play for Wales four times between 1887 and 1890. As a cricketer,he made over 50 first-class appearances,all for Somerset County Cricket Club. His availability in both sports was limited by his career in education;he was headmaster at a number of schools across southern England.

Bosanquet,who played first-class cricket for Middlesex between 1898 and 1919,appeared in seven Test matches for England as an all-rounder. He was chosen as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1905.
