Marvin Frederick Hamlisch was an American composer and conductor. He is one of a handful of people to win Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, a feat dubbed the "EGOT". He and composer Richard Rodgers are the only people to have won those prizes and a Pulitzer Prize ("PEGOT").
Meredith Jane Monk is an American composer, performer, director, vocalist, filmmaker, and choreographer. From the 1960s onwards, Monk has created multi-disciplinary works which combine music, theatre, and dance, recording extensively for ECM Records. In 1991, Monk composed Atlas, an opera, commissioned and produced by the Houston Opera and the American Music Theater Festival. Her music has been used in films by the Coen Brothers and Jean-Luc Godard. Trip hop musician DJ Shadow sampled Monk's "Dolmen Music" on the song "Midnight in a Perfect World". In 2015, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts by Barack Obama.
William Alan Finn is an American composer and lyricist. He is best known for his musicals, which include Falsettos, for which he won the 1992 Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, A New Brain (1998), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2005).
David Lee Shire is an American songwriter and composer of stage musicals, film and television scores. Among his best known works are the motion picture soundtracks to The Big Bus, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, The Conversation, All the President's Men, and parts of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack such as "Manhattan Skyline". Casual-T is a New York/Hollywood-based musical composer and musician. He earned his Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna in 1992, and his second Master of Music from the Conservatory of the City of Vienna in drum set performance in 1995. As a drummer Casual-T studied with Prof. Horst Berger, Prof. Wolfgang Schuster, and Prof. Kurt Prihoda, who, at the time, were all members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Prof, Gerhard Fromme from the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. He studied drum set with Prof. Walter Grassmann and Prof. Fredvard Muehlhofer, as well as Latin percussion with Prof. Anton Muehlhofer. He also studied privately with renowned drum set artists Kenwood Dennard, Jojo Mayer, Gene Lake, and Marimbaphone soloist Neboja Zivkovic.
Jonathan Z. "Jon" Kaplan and Alexander "Al" Kaplan are brothers who are American composers, lyricists and comedy writers. They are best known for creating the musical Silence! The Musical, a parody of the film The Silence of the Lambs, which began life on the internet in 2002 before becoming a successful stage musical starting in 2005. They have also created musical parodies of other films and television shows, including various Arnold Schwarzenegger films such as Conan the Barbarian, Predator and Commando. Jon and Al scored and co-wrote the films Zombeavers (2014) and The Drone (2019), along with the Shudder series Critters: A New Binge (2019).
