The Church of St John the Baptist is a church in Buckminster, Leicestershire. It is a Grade I listed building. [3]
The church consists of a nave, chantry chapel, tower with spire and 6 bells, chancel and north and south aisles. The bells date from 1657, 1649, 1691, 1778, 2 date from 1873 and 1 from 1874. The spire was struck by lightning in 1841 but was repaired 2 years later [4] and restored in 1894. [3] The tower has a beacon chimney. There is a rood stair near the chancel arch. [5]
The church was restored in 1883. [3] [4] There is a family mausoleum to the Dysart family, built by Lionel Tollemache, 8th Earl of Dysart. [5] The mausoleum is Grade II* listed. [6]
Buckminster is a village and civil parish within the Melton district of Leicestershire, England, which includes the two villages of Buckminster and Sewstern. The total population of the civil parish was 356 at the 2011 census. It is on the B676 road, 10 miles east of Melton Mowbray and 4 miles west of the A1 at Colsterworth.

Situated on a hill approximately 400 feet above sea level, the parish includes the hamlets of Botcheston and Newtown Unthank and a scattered settlement at Lindridge. The population at the 2011 census had increased to 3,930. Desford is in the Doomsday Book of 1086 but the name itself is older than that meaning Deor's Ford suggesting an Anglo Saxon origin. Another suggestion is that it means 'ford frequented with wild animals'.
Billesdon is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England, with a population of 745 according to the 2001 census, increasing to 901 at the 2011 census. It is just off the A47, nine miles east of Leicester. The Billesdon bypass opened in October 1986. Nearby places include Houghton on the Hill, Skeffington, Tilton on the Hill, and Gaulby. The Billesdon Brook flows through the village.
