Citibank Europe plc, is the division of Citigroup that operates in Europe. It is headquartered in Ireland.

History

Citibank commenced operations in Ireland in 1965. [1]

In 2015, the division shifted its retail banking headquarters from London to Dublin. At that time, it employed 4,300 people. [2]

Also in 2015, the Hungarian retail operations were acquired by Erste Group. [3]

In 2018, the company formed a new bank as a result of a reorganization due to Brexit. [4]

In September 2023, CEO Kristine Braden resigned after less than a year on the job. [5] The division also announced layoffs. [6] Nacho Gutierrez-Orrantia was then named head of Citibank Europe. [7]

Sir Winfried Franz Wilhelm Bischoff was a German-born British banker who was the chairman of Lloyds Banking Group. He previously served as chairman and interim CEO of Citigroup in 2007. He was succeeded as CEO by Vikram Pandit on 11 December 2007. Bischoff stepped down as chairman on 23 February 2009 and was replaced by Richard Parsons. He had dual British and German citizenship.
