The 2019 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival took place across two weekends: April 12 to 14 and 19 to 21 at the Empire Polo Club, Indio, California, United States. The three headlining acts were Childish Gambino on Friday, Tame Impala on Saturday, and Ariana Grande on Sunday. [1] The 2019 edition was the twentieth anniversary of the festival.
The full lineup and date was announced on January 3, 2019, featuring headliners Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, Ariana Grande and second-line performers Janelle Monáe, The 1975, DJ Snake, Diplo, RÜFÜS DU SOL and Blackpink on Friday, Solange, Kid Cudi, Weezer, Aphex Twin, J Balvin, Billie Eilish and Bassnectar on Saturday, and Khalid, Zedd, Gesaffelstein, Bad Bunny, Dillon Francis, CHVRCHES, and YG on Sunday. [2] A week prior to the festival, Solange cancelled her performance due to "major production delays". [3] Rapper Kanye West was due to be announced as a headliner, but was ruled out due to an impractical last minute request for a custom-built dome stage. [4] He instead held his Easter Sunday Service performance at the venue's campgrounds on April 21. [5]

On April 6, 2019, Christopher Griffin, 49, the festival lead rigger of twenty years, died on the festival campgrounds after sustaining fatal injuries. [36] Griffin fell from the stage scaffolding while working on the festival setup. [37]
On April 22, 2019, The Daily Beast published a report of the alleged "inhumane treatment" of the festival security guards, citing poor tent conditions, insufficient food and water, long hours in the harsh sun, minimum wages and poor coordination between the organizers and the subcontracting security firms. [38]
Coachella is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. It was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999, and is organized by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Presents. The event features musical artists from many genres of music, including rock, pop, indie, hip hop and electronic dance music, as well as art installations and sculptures. Across the grounds, several stages continuously host live music.
Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker, Dominic Simper, Jay Watson, Cam Avery, and Julien Barbagallo. The group has a close affiliation with fellow Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, sharing members and collaborators, including Nick Allbrook, formerly a live member of Tame Impala. Originally signed to Modular Recordings, Tame Impala is now signed to Interscope Records in the United States and Fiction Records in the UK.

Magnus August Høiberg, known professionally as Cashmere Cat, is a Norwegian DJ, record producer and songwriter. Often in tandem with benny blanco, he has been credited with production work for artists including Kanye West, the Kid Laroi, Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Ariana Grande, Tory Lanez, Major Lazer, the Weeknd, and Kali Uchis. His debut studio album, 9 (2017) was released by blanco's Mad Love Records, an imprint of Interscope Records and peaked at number 14 on the VG-lista charts. It also entered the Billboard 200 and included the single "Adore", which marked his only entry on the US Billboard Hot 100.
