Come in Spinner is the soundtrack album to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation 1989/1990 television mini-series of the 1951 novel Come In Spinner by Dymphna Cusack and Florence James. The album is credited to Vince Jones and Grace Knight and peaked at number 4 on the ARIA Charts. Orchestral arrangements and conducting by Derek Williams and William Motzing were recorded at Paradise Studios, Sydney, [1] with Martin Armiger as Producer.

Contents

At the ARIA Music Awards of 1991, the album won the ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album and was nominated for Best Original Soundtrack, Cast or Show Album and Knight was nominated for Best Female Artist. [2]

Eurogliders are a band formed in 1980 in Perth, Western Australia, which included Grace Knight on vocals, Bernie Lynch on guitar and vocals, and Amanda Vincent on keyboards. In 1984, Eurogliders released an Australian top ten album, This Island, which spawned their No. 2 hit single, "Heaven ". "Heaven" also peaked at No. 21 on the United States Billboard Mainstream Rock charts and appeared on the Hot 100. Another Australian top ten album, Absolutely, followed in 1985, which provided two further local top ten singles, "We Will Together" and "Can't Wait to See You". They disbanded in 1989, with Knight having a successful career as a jazz singer. Australian rock music historian Ian McFarlane described Eurogliders as "the accessible face of post-punk new wave music. The band's sophisticated brand of pop was traditional in its structure, but displayed the decidedly 'modern veneer' ". The Tin Lids were an Australian children's pop group formed in 1990 with Mahalia, Eliza-Jane 'E.J.', Jackie and Elly-May Barnes all on vocals. They are the four children of Jane and Jimmy Barnes. The group released three albums: Hey Rudolph!, which peaked at No. 6 on the ARIA Albums Chart, Snakes & Ladders, which was nominated for Best Children's Album at the 1993 ARIA Awards, and Dinosaur Dreaming (1993). The group has also released four singles: "Christmas Day", which reached No. 40 on the ARIA Singles Chart and won Children's Composition of the Year at the 1992 APRA Awards, a cover version of Was 's song, "Walk the Dinosaur", "School" featuring the Yunupingu kids, and "Dinosaurs in Space" (1994).

John Martin Armiger was an Australian musician, record producer and composer. He was one of the singer-songwriters and guitarists with Melbourne-based rock band the Sports from August 1978 to late 1981, which had Top 30 hits on the Kent Music Report Singles Chart with, "Don't Throw Stones" (1979), "Strangers on a Train" (1980) and "How Come" (1981); and Top 20 albums with Don't Throw Stones, Suddenly and Sondra (1981).

The Fifth Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards was held on 25 March 1991 at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre in Sydney. International host Bob Geldof was assisted by presenters to distribute 24 awards. There were live performances but the awards were not televised and the ceremony was noted for its three-hours plus length with Gary Morris, manager of Midnight Oil providing a 20-minute acceptance speech.

Grace Ethel Knight is an English-born Australian vocalist and songwriter. During the 1980s she was a mainstay of pop group Eurogliders which formed in Perth, Western Australia. Knight later became a solo jazz singer and musician based in Sydney. In 1984, Eurogliders released an Australian top ten album, This Island, which spawned their No. 2 hit single, "Heaven ". "Heaven" also peaked at No. 21 on the United States' Billboard Mainstream Rock charts and appeared on the Hot 100. The song, written by Eurogliders' guitarist and cofounder, Bernie Lynch, and vocals by Knight, was their only hit in United States. Knight and Lynch married in 1985 but separated soon after. Another Australian top ten album, Absolutely, followed for Eurogliders in 1985, which provided three further local top ten singles, "We Will Together", "The City of Soul" and "Can't Wait to See You".
