In the 2000s, as a result of changes in the music industry and the growing importance of the Internet, some indie rock acts began to enjoy commercial success, leading to questions about its meaningfulness as a term.

The Cribs band

The Cribs are an English indie rock band originally from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The band consists of twins Gary and Ryan Jarman and their younger brother Ross Jarman. They were subsequently joined by ex-The Smiths and Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr who was a formal member of the group from 2008 until 2011. The band, who first became active on the concert circuit in 2002, were initially tied to other like-minded UK bands of that time, most notably The Libertines, by a British music press that were looking for a 'British rearguard' to the wave of popular US alternative rock bands of the time. They had outgrown this tag by the time of the commercial success of their third LP. In 2008, Q magazine described the band as "The biggest cult band in the UK".

Nick Scott designed the sleeve, whereas the cover image contains detail from the piece "Lessons of Our Forefathers" by Portland, Oregon-based artist Sean Croghan. "Don't Believe in Me"

"Don't Believe in Me", the 7-inch single B-side was initially recorded at the same time as "Housewife", when Johnny Marr still played with the band in 2010, the song went unused for more than a year. Several parties helped resurrect the song: Ryan Jarman produced the original track in 2010 with engineering by Sebastian Lewsley at West Heath Studios in London. Furthermore, Gary Jarman undertook additional recording at Tartan Hell, Portland in 2012. Finally, Woodie Taylor, drummer for Comet Gain and previously Morrissey, mixed the song in Milou Studios. The song reached completion though Chris Potter at Electric Mastering. [3]
