Cooltempo, the dance music imprint of Chrysalis Records, was revived in May 2018. [1] The label released albums by artists such as Kenny Thomas, Milli Vanilli, Adeva, Shara Nelson, Mica Paris and Innocence. [2]
Cooltempo emerged at the end of the 1980s during the height of the UK acid house scene, signing dance acts such as Monie Love and Adeva. [2] As the dance scene became increasingly fragmented, Cooltempo continued with soul/jazz vocalists such as Juliet Roberts, later branching out with jazz/hip hop artists Guru, Gang Starr, Brand New Heavies and Arrested Development. [2] DJ Trevor Nelson worked with the label from 1993 and signed Lynden David Hall and D'Angelo.
Cooltempo came under the ownership of Blue Raincoat Music as part of their purchase of Chrysalis Records in June 2016. [3]
Cooltempo's first release in nearly 20 years came from DJ and producer Francesca Lombardo with her ‘Eye Ring’ single followed by her debut album Life Of Leaf. [4] The LP merges electronica with musical elements derived from Francesca's classical training. Cooltempo then released the debut album from electronic music mainstays Infinity Ink.
Robin Millar, Chrysalis Blue Raincoat Group Chairman [5] and a successful UK producer with over 160 gold, silver and platinum awards coupled with 44 Number 1 singles to his name [6] released a new album on Cooltempo Records in summer 2020. The record, Meditation From A Desert Island, was initially created for his colleagues during lockdown, to offer them a new soundtrack each week to help with their mental wellbeing. [7] The tracks were so well received that collectively a decision was made to release them officially.

The Brand New Heavies is an acid jazz and funk group formed in 1985 in Ealing in west London. Centered around songwriters/multi-instrumentalists Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy, the core members of the group since its founding, Brand New Heavies are best known for a string of successful singles in the early 1990s featuring N'Dea Davenport as lead vocalist. They are currently on tour with a best of set, incorporating a string section and 70’s influenced sequinned trousers.
Chrysalis Records is a British record label that was founded in 1968. The name is both a reference to the pupal stage of a butterfly and a combination of its founders' names, Chris Wright and Terry Ellis. It started as the Ellis-Wright Agency.
Adeva is an American singer. She had a string of successful house and R&B hits in the late 1980s to early 1990s, including "Warning!", "I Thank You" and "Respect".
Paul Louis Hardcastle is a British composer, musician, producer, songwriter, radio presenter and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for his song "19", which went to number 1 in the UK Singles Chart in 1985.
Rak Records is a British record label, founded by record producer Mickie Most in 1969. Rak was home to artists such as Herman's Hermits, Suzi Quatro, Mud, Kenny, Hot Chocolate, Smokie, Arrows, Span, Racey and Kim Wilde. Rak Records were distributed via a licensing deal with EMI Records, which bought the company and its master recordings from Most in 1983. Most kept the company name and his RAK Studios, which still exists in St. John's Wood along with Rak Publishing. The latter company represents artists such as Joan Jett, Ben Taylor and KK. In 1986, Most defected the label from EMI to PRT Records which handled the last releases until February 1988. Owing to the records not being hits, the label folded. However, 26 years later in late 2014, Rak Records was revived as a label for new artists releasing both downloads and 7-inch vinyl in the form of a singles club. The Cadbury Sisters, Trojanhorse, and Beautiful Boy were the new signings. They recorded their own original songs as the A-sides, and covered a classic Rak artists cover as the B-side. The Cadbury Sisters covered Steve Harley's 1975 classic "Make Me Smile ", Trojan Horse did Cozy Powell's "Dance With The Devil", and Beautiful Boy did "Kids In America". As PRT Records is no longer in existence, the label is now distributed by Gearbox Records using the original sailing yacht paper label and the records packaged in the original royal blue paper sleeves.
Jacqueline Graham is a British singer-songwriter. Following her hit version of "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love" with David Grant in 1985, Graham scored a further five UK top 20 hits over a two-year period. In 1994, her cover version of Chaka Khan's hit "Ain't Nobody" reached number one on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs.
The Raincoats is the debut studio album by English rock band The Raincoats. It was released on 21 November 1979 as one of the first records issued by the London-based independent label Rough Trade. The album is perhaps best known for its off-kilter cover of "Lola" by the Kinks. The album's sixth track, "The Void", was covered by Hole in 1994.

Medicine 4 My Pain is the debut album by British R&B singer Lynden David Hall. The album was first released in November 1997 on the Cooltempo label and reached No. 166 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was a critical success, and was instrumental in Hall's winning of the 'Best Newcomer' award at the 1998 MOBO ceremony. The album was re-released on 2 November 1998 with new artwork and three bonus tracks. Paying tribute after Hall's death in 2006, disc jockey Ronnie Herel described Medicine 4 My Pain as "a landmark album for UK black music."
Steven Dante is a British soul singer and songwriter, who had several singles released in the 1980s on the Cooltempo label. His only solo album, Find Out, was released on Chrysalis in 1988. It peaked at #87 in the UK Albums Chart in September 1988. He has also collaborated with several house producers, providing vocals for John "Jellybean" Benitez, D Mob and Lighthouse Family. "The Real Thing", released in 1987 with Jellybean, reached #13 on the UK Singles Chart, and was a US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart number-one single. It was included on Jellybean's album Just Visiting This Planet.

Later that year Blue Raincoat Music bought Chrysalis Records, an agreement which saw the label returned to the independent sector and reunited with original co-founder Chris Wright, in a new non-executive chairman role. In 2017, Blue Raincoat Music acquired the Berlin-based booking agency Spar-ks. Blue Raincoat Music now serves as the umbrella company under which Blue Raincoat Artists (management), Blue Raincoat Songs (publishing), and Chrysalis Records operate.
