Newcastle is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales named after and including Newcastle. It is represented since the 2014 Newcastle by-election by Tim Crakanthorp of the Australian Labor Party.
Diane Beamer is an Australian politician. As an Australian Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly,she represented the state electorates of Badgerys Creek (1995–1999) and Mulgoa (1999–2011). This included ministerial roles in the Carr and Iemma governments. Beamer chose not to recontest the 2011 election. In December 2018,Labor endorsed Beamer as their candidate for the Division of Lindsay at the 2019 Australian federal election. She was defeated by the Liberals' Melissa McIntosh.
Karyn Lesley Paluzzano is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 2003 to 2010,representing the electorate of Penrith. In September 2012 Paluzzano was sentenced to twelve months' home detention following a guilty plea for falsely claiming parliamentary allowances,as well as giving false and misleading evidence to an anti-corruption inquiry.

Jodi Leyanne McKay is an Australian former politician who was the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of New South Wales from June 2019 until May 2021. She previously served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly,representing Strathfield for the Labor Party from 2015 to 2021. McKay also previously represented Newcastle for one term from 2007 until her defeat at the 2011 election. Between 2008 and 2011,McKay held a number of junior ministerial responsibilities in the Rees and Keneally governments,including serving as the Minister for the Hunter,Tourism,Small Business,Science and Medical Research,Commerce,and Women,and Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer). On 17 October 2021,McKay announced she would resign from the parliament,which triggered a by-election in her seat of Strathfield. McKay subsequently became National Chair of the Australia India Business Council.

He was elected as a Liberal Party candidate,and represented that party until 6 August 2014,when he moved to the parliamentary crossbench and sat as an independent after the Independent Commission Against Corruption heard evidence that Cornwell may have breached electoral funding laws. After earlier announcing that would not contest his seat at the next state election,on 12 August 2014 Cornwell resigned from parliament with immediate effect triggering the 2014 Charlestown by-election.
