Craig Bartley Richardson (born September 28, 1984) is an American politician who has served as a member of the Kentucky Senate since January 2025. He represents the 3rd district, which includes Caldwell, Christian, and Muhlenberg Counties. He currently serves as the vice chair of the senate Health Services committee. [1]

Biography

Richardson was born on September 28, 1984. [1] He is a native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kentucky in 2010, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis in 2017. After law school, he returned to Hopkinsville to practice law with his father Michael A. Richardson. [2]

Political career

Richardson was elected unopposed in the 2024 Kentucky Senate election following the retirement of incumbent senator Whitney Westerfield. [3] In the 2025 Kentucky General Assembly, Richardson was appointed to five committees: Agriculture; Appropriations & Revenue; Enrollment; Health Services; and Veterans, Military Affairs, & Public Protection. [1]

Personal life

Richardson and his wife Katie are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they have one daughter. [4] Richardson served as a missionary to Brazil for two years; he is fluent in Portuguese. [5]

Richardson is currently the president of the bar association of Christian County. [6]

Henry Cornelius Burnett was an American politician who served as a Confederate States senator from Kentucky from 1862 to 1865. From 1855 to 1861, Burnett served four terms in the United States House of Representatives. A lawyer by profession, Burnett had held only one public office—circuit court clerk—before being elected to Congress. He represented Kentucky's 1st congressional district immediately prior to the Civil War. This district contained the entire Jackson Purchase region of the state, which was more sympathetic to the Confederate cause than any other area of Kentucky. Burnett promised the voters of his district that he would have President Abraham Lincoln arraigned for treason. Unionist newspaper editor George D. Prentice described Burnett as "a big, burly, loud-mouthed fellow who is forever raising points of order and objections, to embarrass the Republicans in the House".
