The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public land-grant research university system with its main campus in Storrs, Connecticut, United States. It was founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School, named after two benefactors. In 1893, the school became a public land grant college, then took its current name in 1939. Over the following decade, social work, nursing, and graduate programs were established. During the 1960s, UConn Health was established for new medical and dental schools. Gopie took the role as Principal in August 2020 after former principal Dr. Louis A. Padua announced his retirement. Then in October 2021, Michael Harris, former assistant principal, was promoted to principal after Gopie was promoted to Assistant Superintendent.
Hilda Crosby Standish was a pioneer in the birth control movement in the state of Connecticut. In 1935, she became medical director of the Maternal Health Center in Hartford, the state's first birth control clinic. Dr. Standish was inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame in 1994.

The Wilby High School is a historic school building at 260 Grove Street in Waterbury, Connecticut. Built in 1917-20, it is one of the oldest surviving secondary school buildings in the city, and a distinctive example of Tudor Gothic architecture. The building served as a school until 1978; the current Wilby High School is located on Bucks Hill Road. This building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
