Crown of Phantoms is the seventh and final studio album by American metal band Chimaira. [9] It was released on July 30, 2013, via record label E1 Music. [9] It is the first and only Chimaira album to feature Austin D'Amond, Jeremy Creamer, Sean Zatorsky, Emil Werstler, and Matt Szlachta, who all joined the band during 2011 and 2012 and left the band in September 2014.

Release

On April 18, 2013, Chimaira announced their seventh studio album, Crown of Phantoms, along with a release date of July 30, 2013. [10] The band also announced an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for the release of their album. [10] [11] Contributions for the campaign would fund a Fan Edition CD/DVD version of album which included additional tracks, a documentary, and other exclusive features. [10] [11] The campaign was successfully funded on June 2, 2013. [11] On June 4, 2013, the band revealed the album's track listing and cover artwork. [12]

On May 14, 2013, Chimaira released the album's first single, "All That's Left Is Blood", along with an accompanying music video. [13] [14] A second single, "No Mercy", and music video was released on June 18, 2013. [15] [16] The album reached position 52 on the Billboard 200 charts on its first week of release, selling around 7,400 copies and 1,800 on the second week. [17] This was improvement from the previous album's debut at No. 54. [18]

Crown of Phantoms was included into the list of "Axl Rosenberg's Top Fifteen Metal Albums of 2013" according to MetalSucks. [19]

Recording and production

"Crown Of Phantoms is the culmination of three years of going through tons of changes, harsh realities but also excitement. It's something brand new and when you put all those things together you get Crown Of Phantoms as a result. These are exciting times for the band and it’s the polar opposite of where I was with the band two years ago."

The album was produced and mixed by Ben Schigel at Spider Studios, and mastered by Dan Millice at Engine Room Audio in New York City.

Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miland "Mille" Petrozza, drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, lead guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, and bassist Frédéric Leclercq. Upon release, it debuted No. 117 on the Billboard 200 charts. To date the album has sold around 200,000 copies in the US.

The discography of American heavy metal band Chimaira consists of seven studio albums, two extended plays, eleven singles, two video albums and thirteen music videos. Chimaira originated in Cleveland, Ohio, composed of vocalist Mark Hunter, guitarists Jason Hager and Rob Arnold, bassist Jim LaMarca, drummer Andols Herrick and programmer Chris Spicuzza. Hager was replaced by Matt DeVries in 2001. Chimaira's first release was an extended play, This Present Darkness, which sold 10,000 copies. After signing to Roadrunner Records, the band's debut studio album, Pass Out of Existence, was released in August 2001. A second studio album, The Impossibility of Reason, followed in 2003, debuting and peaking at number 117 on the Billboard 200. Herrick was replaced by drummer Kevin Talley, formerly of Misery Index, in 2004. In 2004, Werstler became lead guitarist for the metal band Dååth, whose second album The Hinderers peaked at No. 49 on the Top Heatseekers chart in 2007. In 2009 Dååth released The Concealers on Roadrunner which reached No. 35 on Top Heatseekers and was placed as No. 3 on a list of the "top twenty metal albums of 2009" by Metal Sucks. In 2010 Werstler released the instrumental metal album Avalanche of Worms as a collaboration with Eyal Levi with the album receiving a largely positive response for its musicianship and experimental nature.

In an interview, the band stated they have filmed a music video. On August 10, 2011, the official video for "Year of the Snake" was released. The DVD that was released through a Hot Topic edition featured a 50-minute interview with the new line up, no music videos were featured.
