Ctenostomatini is a tribe of tiger beetles in the family Cicindelidae. There are at least two genera and more than 230 described species in Ctenostomatini. [1] [2] [3]
These two genera belong to the tribe Ctenostomatini:
Tiger beetles are a family of beetles, Cicindelidae, known for their aggressive predatory habits and running speed. The fastest known species of tiger beetle, Rivacindela hudsoni, can run at a speed of 9 km/h, or about 125 body lengths per second. As of 2005, about 2,600 species and subspecies were known, with the richest diversity in the Oriental (Indo-Malayan) region, followed by the Neotropics. While historically treated as a subfamily of ground beetles (Carabidae) under the name Cicindelinae, several studies since 2020 indicated that they should be treated as a family, the Cicindelidae, which are a sister group to Carabidae within the Adephaga.
Ground beetles are a large, cosmopolitan family of beetles, the Carabidae, with more than 40,000 species worldwide, around 2,000 of which are found in North America and 2,700 in Europe. As of 2015, it is one of the 10 most species-rich animal families. They belong to the Adephaga. Members of the family are primarily carnivorous, but some members are herbivorous or omnivorous.
Pentacomia is a genus in the beetle family Cicindelidae. There are more than 50 described species in Pentacomia, found in Central and South America.
Cicindela, commonly known as common tiger beetles, are generally brightly colored and metallic beetles, often with some sort of patterning of ivory or cream-colored markings. They are most abundant and diverse in habitats very often near bodies of water with sandy or occasionally clay soils; they can be found along rivers, sea and lake shores, sand dunes, around dry lakebeds, on clay banks, or woodland paths.
The Galerucinae are a large subfamily of the leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae), containing about 15,000 species in more than 1000 genera, of which about 500 genera and about 8000 species make up the flea beetle tribe Alticini.
Amblycheila is a genus of flightless, nocturnal tiger beetles. There are eight species distributed across the southwestern United States and Mexico.
Habroscelimorpha is a genus in the beetle family Cicindelidae. There are about seven described species in Habroscelimorpha.
Peridexia is a genus in the beetle family Cicindelidae. There are at least four described species in Peridexia, found in Madagascar.
Ctenodactylinae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Carabidae.
Trechinae is a subfamily of ground beetles in the family Carabidae. There are 6 tribes, more than 430 genera, and over 6,700 described species in Trechinae.
Epomis is a subgenus of ground beetle genus Chlaenius. The larvae of this subgenus are notable for being obligate role-reversal predators. Amphibians such as frogs are normally predators of beetles; however, Epomis larvae feed exclusively on amphibians.
Neocollyris pacholatkoi is a species in the tiger beetle family Cicindelidae. It was described by Sawada and Wiesner in 2006 and is endemic to India.
Cicindelini is a tribe of tiger beetles in the family Cicindelidae, containing the overwhelming majority of genera and species in the family. There are more than 90 genera and 2,000 described species in Cicindelini.
Tenebrionini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are at least 20 genera in Tenebrionini.
Megacephalini is a tribe of big-headed tiger beetles in the family Cicindelidae.
Phaeoxantha is a genus of tiger beetles in the family Cicindelidae, formerly included within the genus Megacephala.
Toxicini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 17 genera in Toxicini.
Manticorini is a tribe of tiger beetles in the family Cicindelidae. There are about 6 genera and more than 30 described species in Manticorini.
Oxycheilini is a tribe of tiger beetles in the family Cicindelidae. There are at least 3 genera and more than 70 described species in Oxycheilini.
Corythoderini is a tribe of scarab beetles in the family Scarabaeidae. There are about 6 genera and more than 30 described species in Corythoderini.
