Ctimene salamandra is a moth of the family Geometridae. It is found in New Guinea. [2]
In Greek mythology, Eumaeus was Odysseus's swineherd and friend. His father, Ktesios son of Ormenos was king of an island called Syra. When he was a young child a Phoenician sailor seduced his nurse, a slave, who agreed to bring the child among other treasures in exchange for their help in her escape. The nurse was killed by Artemis on the journey by sea, but the sailors continued to Ithaca where Odysseus father Laertes bought him as a slave. Thereafter he was brought up with Odysseus and his sister Ctimene and was treated by Anticleia, their mother, almost as Ctimene's equal.

Salamandridae is a family of salamanders consisting of true salamanders and newts. Salamandrids are distinguished from other salamanders by the lack of rib or costal grooves along the sides of their bodies and by their rough skin. Their skin is very granular because of the number of poison glands. They also lack nasolabial grooves. Most species of Salamandridae have moveable eyelids but lack lacrimal glands.

The alpine salamander is a shiny black salamander found in the Alps from the Swiss-French border at the western end of its range through Austria to the Dinaric Alps at the eastern end of its range, at altitudes above 700 m (2,300 ft). The western Alps are inhabited by a similar species, Lanza's alpine salamander, in only one small area. No differences in length are seen between the sexes and the sex ratio is 1:1. Their life expectancy is at least 10 years. Unlike other salamanders, whose larvae are developed in water, the alpine salamander is a fully terrestrial species. Capture-recapture methods suggest that the species is very stationary; 12 m (39 ft) was the maximum observed distance travelled by one individual during the summer season. About 120 individuals per hectare were counted in most suitable areas with >2000 individuals/ha also observed, suggesting that this rather cryptic species is quite abundant.

Salamandra Kharkiv was an ice hockey team in Kharkiv, Ukraine. They participated in the Ukrainian Hockey Championship during the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. In 1994, they finished in third place in the first round with a record of two wins and two losses. They failed to qualify for the final round as only the top two teams from the first round advanced to it. Salamandra finished in fourth place in the first round in 1995, and again failed to qualify for the final round.
