Cyan Kicks is a Finnish rock band from Helsinki, founded in 2016. The band combines heavy rock, pop melodies and electronic music in their sound. [1]
The group's vocalist Susanna Saarinen started public appearances in the cover duo she founded with Pasi Sundelin. Saarinen participated in the Idols competition in 2008. She found guitarist Niila Perkkiö in the announcements of the muusikoiden.net website and in 2012 they founded their first band Fuse!, which was compared to Paramore. [2]
Susanna Alexandra, Niila Perkkiö, bassist Leevi Erkkilä and drummer Pietari Reijonen founded the band Cyan Kicks in 2016. [2] [3] Band members Susanna Alexandra and Niila Perkkiö got to know each other already in 2011. [4] The band signed a recording contract with the Finnish record label Ranka Kustannus in June 2017. The band's first single "Feathers" was released in July 2017. [5] The band's second single "Gasoline" was released in January 2018, and it played on the national YleX radio channel. [6] The band was described in the international media as a promising export product. [7] Cyan Kicks released their debut studio album, entitled I Don't Love You in August 2019. The band received an Emma nomination for the best rock album of the year. [8]
Cyan Kick's first foreign concerts in the summer of 2020 were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the band started making new music. [2] The band's EP Not Your Kind was released in February 2021. The album had seven songs. [2] In summer 2021, the band performed as a warm-up act at the Apocalyptica gig in Tampere. Elize Ryd, the female vocalist of the Swedish metal band Amaranthe, was a guest soloist at the gig. [3] [2] Ryd and Cyan Kicks wanted to collaborate and about a week after the show they made the song "Hurricane" in one day of work. [1]
By January 2022, the band's music had been streamed more than 10 million times. [3] It was then reported that the band would compete in the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2022 with the song "Hurricane". [9] The song was produced by American musician-producer Chris Walla and was also mixed by Zakk Cervini. [3] The song's exclamation points feature a choir made up of the band's fans. [2] In the competition, the band finished second. [10] During 2023 they did a tour with the Swedish band Smash into pieces.
Cyan Kicks were selected to compete in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2024 with the song "Dancing with Demons". [11] [12]
Cyan Kick's genres have been considered alternative rock and disco metal. [2] The band combines heavy metal, electronic rock and pop in their music. [2] In 2022, the band described their music as modern rock combining different styles. [3]

The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2012 in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2012 contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. 13 entries were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of four performance shows and a final, taking place in January and February 2012. Six entries ultimately competed in the final on 25 February where votes from the public selected "När jag blundar" performed by Pernilla Karlsson as the winner.

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu is an annual music contest organised by the Finnish public broadcaster Yle. It made its debut in 2012 as the Finnish selection format for the Eurovision Song Contest, replacing the previous Finnish Eurovision selection Suomen euroviisukarsinta which had been held since 1961.

Six entries competed in each semi-final and the top three from each semi-final, as selected solely by a public vote, advanced to the final. Nine entries competed in the final on 28 February where the combination of votes from eight jury groups representing different factions of Finnish society and votes from the public selected "Aina mun pitää" performed by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät as the winner.
Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät was a Finnish punk rock band, formed in 2009 in a charity workshop for adults with developmental disabilities. They are the main focus of the 2012 Finnish documentary film The Punk Syndrome. In 2015, they qualified for the finals of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, which they later won; they represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 but got knocked out in the semi-final. The group disbanded in December 2016 when guitarist Pertti Kurikka turned 60 years old and retired from playing punk rock.

Self-described as a song that is inspired by Keisteri's life mantra of not taking everything seriously. It was written and composed by Henri Piispanen, Jussi Roine, and Keisteri, and released on 16 January 2024 through All Day Entertainment Oy.
