Background and release

In March 2023, Ciara announced that her next single, following "Better Thangs" with Summer Walker, would be "Da Girls" and would be released on March 24, 2023. [3] "Da Girls" has been described as a female empowerment song. [4]

Music video

The official music video for "Da Girls" was released on March 24, 2023, and was directed by Sara Lacombe. [5] [6]

Remixes

Ciara recruited Lola Brooke and Lady London for the first remix, the Girls Mix. It was released on April 14, 2023. [7] [8] [9] An official music video was released on the same day. [10]

On May 12, 2023, Ciara released a Versions EP featuring the original version of "Da Girls", plus two new remixes: the Slow Mix featuring Derrick Milano and the Dance Mix featuring Lay Bankz. [11] [12]

Chart performance

The original, solo version of "Da Girls" debuted at number 20 on Billboards' R&B/Hip Hop Digital Song Sales Chart. [13]

Derrick Carrington Gray, known professionally as Derrick Milano, is an American songwriter, rapper, and singer. He grew up in Philadelphia and in Delaware before moving to Florida for college. He began his musical career as a rapper in 2013 before shifting to songwriting in 2019. He has since written songs for artists including Justin Bieber, Pop Smoke, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Thee Stallion. In 2021, he won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards for co-writing the rap song "Savage Remix" by Megan Thee Stallion and featuring Beyoncé.
